There are countless reasons why this would never happen.
Another point to the likely acquisition of the NBN licence by WIN.
So given Bruce Gordon, as the owner of WIN, is a billionaire, I doubt heâll worry too much about ratings or anything in regards to NNSW. I think heâll just be happy heâs finally gotten his prized NNSW Nine affiliation for $16 mil (which is probably a pretty small amount of money to him), and as the largest regional market, it also thus completes his Australia wide regional footprint (aside from Remote Central/Eastern and the 7 owned GTS/BKN and RTS/SES SA licences).
As long as heâs not carrying losses (which I doubt will happen regardless of what will happen with the NNSW news), thatâs probably all heâll care about it.
The only possible issue with NBN re-branding as WIN is that northern NSW has only known WIN to be a 10 brand on channel 5. However, once viewers realise WIN is a Nine affiliate, then all will be good. I think what they should do, is air a promotion advising NBN will now be known as WIN, if the rebranding occurs.
If the sale gets approval, I daresay that the reset will be no later than 31 December 2026, with 3 dates before then possible. 30 June 2026, the date of the proposed finalisation. 31 August 2026, possibly a reset leading into NRL finals and a reset leading into end of ratings period (also noting the date immediately following it was anniversary when Ten Northern NSW was rebranded WIN in 2017 - although out of the 3 dates least likely) and 30 November 2026 as its the end of the ratings and gives the opportunity for a Summer reset.
I wouldnât totally discount 1 July either. That will depend on how ready WIN will be to take over eg. do their own ad playout, new studios / control rooms for news (assuming that comes out of Wollongong etc).
No - and honestly, the brand should have been retired when they adopted Nine more broadly (outside of news), the current arrangement is a bit of a mess.
One thing I hope WIN does is keep working with the University of Newcastle to get the NBN archive preserved. So stuff like this can be viewed by people for a long time to come:
This is the doco Sandakan The Untold Story from 1994. It won a Logie Award for most outstanding achievement by a regional station, the 2nd last time it was awarded.
Just a question, has anyone heard of what the anticipated changes next week will be. I have heard rumours and speculation, but nothing I can find to confirm what I have been told. I dontwant to post anything inaccurate myself or be accused of being speculative
Just a case of wait and see.
There was a post somewhere that on air changes wonât happen until September.
Not surprised considering how long the nrn changeover took.
Do you have a link to the post?
Will be interesting to see how long it takes for any on air changes to appear.
Some might happen quickly such as
- Insertion of âWIN Networkâ IDs.
- Removal of NBN News from 9Now
- Removal of âAdvertise on Nine NBNâ ads
- Removal of âGoodnight Big Dogâ bumper
Other changes eg news and transfer of playout will probably take longer to occur.
WIN will broadcast Nineâs premium content
If MAFS and Shark! is considered âpremium contentâ, I should be on OnlyFans.
1 - as soon as possible, they cannot deny the people of Northern NSW of their Mappy fix
2 - as soon as possible, but really, WIN News should be on 9Now as a public service.
3 - Nine will make it so itâs just âAdvertise on Nineâ
4 - do that and the people of Newcastle will hang the Gordon family and WINâs senior management. Pass him onto the Knights or Jets as a mascot - they did it with Youppi in Montreal, and would be good PR.
This is only delaying the invevitable - once the truly senior management wants Bruce for a Sunbeam, I can see Nine buying WIN or WIN buying Nine and theyâre back together again. Ten did with their regionsls, Seven did it with Prime and the SCA 7s (before buying SCA itself)âŚitâs gonna happen. Like death, taxes and MAFS contestants being on OnlyFans.
Hopefully we have a repeat of nrn where playout was transferred in 3 months.
How would win be able to insert there station idents before moving out of Nineâs playout facility?
I agree, a good opportunity for a Newcastle organisation to buy the âBig Dogâ rights and that silly costume!
They could put it to good use in local promotions targeting families and young kids eg âCome and meet Big Dogâ .
They simply send the âWIN Networkâ IDs to Nine for playout in their system as an interim measure
Another thing that will probably happen quickly is that Nine probably wonât use Newcastle for Late News hosting anymore.
I think Big Dog will be put to bed in the medium to long term, just like Seven and Prime did with Prime Possum
A dark day for NBN. Staff have been informed this morning that it will move to a pre-recorded 5.30pm half-hour bulletin, and weekend news will be axed. Redundancies are expected to begin soon.
As usual⌠WIN-ning with WIN! ![]()
