Really? It isnāt about slow, itās about engaging. From what Iāve seen, Nineās usual bunch (Slater, Taylor, Clarke, Healy, Chappell) are the worst bunch of cricket commentators in Australia IMO. And do you know why? Because none of theme have anything even mildly clever to say, and their commentary is just plain boring, making the coverage pathetic.
Compare Nineās cricket commentators to Tenās BBL commentators, and you realise how pathetic Nineās coverage is.
And nine were going to change the combox when it has a year to go on a contract. So again whatās the point of the pointless negativity about who is in the box. When you have three radio channels to chose from now, you donāt even need to listen to Nine.
The options are there not to hear from them, so why listen?

It sounds like you just find Tests too boring and slow - itās got nothing to do with the commentary. Test Cricket completely different game from T20 and it makes sense the commentary will be different. I think Nine do a great job covering the cricket and one good thing is that I donāt have to hear about whoās going into the bloody jungle all the time.
Impressive peak ratings for the cricket on Nine on Wednesday. Figures are in an article in The Australian discussing the next television rights contract. Link is here (paywall).
BT do a great job with intelligent and diverse commentators, and Sky Sports did before them.
Thereās a reason so many people mute Nine and listen to the ABC coverage - Nineās is dumbed down, all about the commentators and is simply a boyās club with in jokes and the rest. And thatās for test cricket, so it shows people want something different to Nine.
I also have full confidence that Ten would of course adjust their coverage for international test cricket. You canāt have AC/DC as the theme, gaudy tiny sets, flashy graphics, etc for test cricket.
A better comparision would be watching Nineās T20 coverage in comparison to the BBL. The differences are extremely stark, and you can clearly see which is more engaging.
Absolutely agree. A lot of people complain about the alleged Channel Nine āboys clubā but Channel Ten is no different. Case in point when all the Channel Ten male commentators were laughing while Chris Gayle was flirting with Mel McLaughlin a couple of years ago and then only apologised a few overs later when they saw the social media response. All the in-jokes between Ponting, Gilly, Flem, and Waugh are no different to Slater, Taylor and Healy.
And what is so wrong about it being blokey anyway? Iāve never heard anyone complain that the netball coverage is too female-centric.
Iāve probably said this before but i hate this āAā and āBā commentator setup thatās been going on for a few years now. How many times has Mark Nicholas and Ian Chappell been paired up? Need more variety rather than the same pairs or revert back to 3 commentators.
On day 5 we might see some B commentators paired up but I donāt see why it canāt be all the time.
The rain in Melbourne is getting heavier during the afternoon. Unfortunately, It is likely that day 4 will Be washed out. As a result, there will More likely to be stumps on Day 4 at 5pm (EDT)
The TV box at the MCG is massive, stretches right along, you can see it above the MCC members (as the window panels are down). With the rest of the MCG media centre to the left of that (3AW, ABC, Triple M boxes, etc).
Itās got that black sound insulation above where the camera podium is, with commentary usually on the right hand side (with desks / mic plug ins) visible during post-game on Sevenās AFL telecasts. Tenās BBL studio is also set-up here and they used to have a large studio set-up which they stored in the MCG underground car park I believe, which was used during AFL Grand Finals and Anzac Day.
Channel 9 Played a Mark Nicholas narration of the history of the ashes.
Mark Nicholas gave an update saying thatās unfortunately there will be no further play during the afternoon. As a result the game is called off for Day 4 of the Melbourne ashes series where Australia are at stumps for 2/103. Telecast finished at 5:30PM (EST)
Did anyone notice the blank screen, with the 9 watermark still visible, for about 15-20 seconds between the end of the cricket and start of Millionaire Hot Seat? Iām still at my parents in Lake Macquarie for Christmas so am watching on NBN.
