Nickelodeon (Ten)

I thought 10Bold was doing better than 10Peach and 10Peach wasn’t rating as well as when it was Eleven back when it had Fox shows .

But it’s still rating okay for 10 and can get better with additional content added to its library.

The idea of launching another channel is to increase 10’s overall network share to make them more competitive - replacing 10 Peach with a MTV aligned channel would not help with this strategy.

yeah because endless repeats of Star Trek shows, Fraiser, Everybody no longer wants to see Raymond, the awful Seifeld repeats (seriously that show has not held up at all, what an awful show) … that is a lot of CBS, Sony & Paramount garbage oh and now 2 and half men endless repeats.

Replacing 10 Peach with MTV even the MTV with craporama 16 and I’m pregnant would be better that the rubbish that is served on 10 Peach.

As much as I agree with this… from what I can tell, it rates pretty well.

But wouldn’t it be just as good to keep peach that is getting over 2% shares and have a new channel that attracts a new and different demographic?

You can’t deny Seinfeld’s success though, and that’s what 10 would be chasing. Hulu was paying ~$150 million a year for streaming rights. God knows what Netflix is paying for post-2020 rights.

How dare you? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I agree, still a good show though, but reruns have been done to death as it’s been over 20 years now since the show finished up

But repeats are highly valued. Netflix just paid record sums for Seinfeld and now Friends to screen these into the future.

Netflix in the US is losing Friends (to HBO Max), not the other way around. In Australia, it’s on Stan.

Even more so for multichannels, demos are important. Last night, for example, 10 Peach was the second most popular multi-channel in the 3 demos (behind 9Go) even outrating SBS’s main channel. Seinfeld ranked 3rd in the 25-54 multi channel demos ahead of Neighbours.

just my view, Seinfeld repeats are bad, yes they rate and rate well however just how many times can you actually watch the same repeats, yes there will be a market for such content but look at the places its been since it ended in 1998.

Star Trek is just as bad, yes I am a fan but there is only so many times you can sit through TNG, DS9, Voyager, I am surprised Enterprise has not been seen anywhere (has Ten even played Enterprise at all?), no one wants to see Discovery (absolute Jar Jar Abrhams / Kurtzman 25% different licence crap) and the new Picard series is gonna flop also from all reports.

I welcome a MTV channel provided they get the programming line up right, sure it will be “reality MTV style crap” but if they can swing a few concerts and music programming block it has a chance to work well.

I just can’t see this happening. I doubt Foxtel will want to retain the MTV branded channels should Ten start broadcasting MTV on free to air. Surely it would be more lucrative for ViacomCBS to have Foxtel broadcast a suite of MTV channels rather than have Ten broadcast one.

Don’t think it would leave Foxtel but it Depends on the financials, how much Foxtel pays vs what can be generated from 10. For all we know, MTV could be one of Foxtels lowest rating channels and they want the license cheaper which makes it easier to just invest Thier content into 10.

Lots of scenarios can end up with the decision to go to 10. It’s interesting

10 years ago I’d agree with you. These days, I’m not so sure Foxtel is the preferred platform. I think if MTV were to exist on both platforms, we’d get a watered down version on FTA and the “premium suite” on Foxtel.

Viacom’s MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central are available free via satellite, streaming and apps in Germany, while still being available on Sky Deutschland and other pay television systems. Sky owner Comcast hasn’t removed the channels despite them being free via other sources.

News article from 2017.

I know it’s not a precedent, but it is interesting that there is at least one freely available MTV channel already elsewhere.

Repeats rate well and people like shows that are easily digestible and familiar. Friends, Seinfeld, Simpsons, Will and Grace, Frasier, Everyone Loves Raymond, how I met your mother alllll fit that criteria.

There is a reason the shows are worth so much $$ and continue to be watched by many.

I don’t mind Peach being a channel largely dedicated to repeat content. People will still tune in to shows they love, just maybe not every night.

I personally have watched each Friends literally like 30+ times or more… I’m rewatching Seinfeld for the 4th time currently as well. There is a market for that content.

Ask MASH fans, it’s been in reruns constantly since the 70s

Considering that WIN broadcasts a version of Sky News as their fourth channel they might not have enough spare bandwidth for it. Plus their affiliation agreement might only be for 10/Peach/Bold.

Still, I’d love to seem them try to add the WIN logo somehow to the MTV logo, would be interesting to see how they do it haha

We could have a similar to Gogglebox scenario, first airs on Foxtel and then they go to Ten a week or two later.

It will be interesting how Ten start off with the content though if that happens. A lot of the featured shows on MTV have been going for years (Geordie Shore, Teen Mom etc) or are reboots of old shows (The Hills, Jersey Shore etc) so will Ten just start up with the new seasons or will they go back to the beginning? A lot of FTA audiences would not have seen them before.

Outisde of a few primetime shows though I’m still thinking that it will mostly be old MTV content repeated, reality or music related content in Ten’s back catalogue repeated and music video fillers during the day and in the early hours of the morning.
