Nickelodeon (formerly 10Shake)

It’s pretty clear at this point 10Shake’s format was misguided

Well, it wasn’t the initial format per se, but the execution.

The prime time line-up is probably 10-15 years too late. Daytime by all accounts is reaching the expected audience.

I feel what is really lacking in AU FTA is a premium scriited channel

When you look across go, two, peach, rush, shake etc…

10 has access to some premium scripted content from paramount network in the US, plus Cbs all access content and an archive of stuff like 5 bedrooms, secret life of us, the secrets she keeps, offspring etc

I feel they could build a prime time schedule of premium scripted and perhaps with less commercials. It would be a point of difference

But also Viacom prob wants to keep that stuff for the paid paramount +

I don’t understand why 10 even bothered with another multichannel. Cleary online is where FTA is going. Maybe they should have just made this an online channel.

I don’t think viewers even want linear channels anymore.

They’d be better served pumping money into 10Play

Which really under performs in relation to 10s broadcast operation

Which is really an industry problem, why won’t networks work to visibly improve the viewer experience? Instead they let numbers slowly shift elsewhere.

I think they are trying to do that no?

Shift away from FTA to streaming is a global trend. It fact it’s accelerating faster in many countries than Australia.

If you can work out a way to arrest the decline faster - there may be some jobs paying in the tens of millions for you at NBCUNIVERSAL and Comcast and Viacom CBS

The truth is the biggest minds in media In the world ate all trying to work out how to survibe the shift away from linear viewing.

Disney is probably the world leader - it’s bet it’s Im entire future on streaming.

Warner on the other hand - is so far failing with HBO Max - and their purchase of DirecTV

It’s not a simple riddle to solve.

Because this channel barely costs a cent to run - any money in is a profit.

How did they manage to get Dive Club for nothing? Is that funded 100%?

Lexington,
Just because they could run a wasteful
Channel doesn’t mean they should , honestly. can’t defend stupid decisions all the time.

If it makes them money from additional advertising, adds to their total network audience share and costs them virtually nothing to run - what’s the problem?

Sure, they didn’t get the right mix of content right off the bat which they can be criticized for, but they’re obviously trying to fix that and on some nights it’s kinda working.

The channel doesn’t really appeal to me, but their daytime lineup has a very specific (and necessary) target audience and nights can be too if they can get it right.

They haven’t caved yet on switching the output format of the channel yet, which we know would instantly make it available for more people and likely increase its share as a result.

Not quite sure where I defended it.

Another solid share (for Shake) on a Saturday once again last night, just behind 9Rush and ahead of some other multis.

Clearly it’s best line-up and consistent, should delve deeper into the data and see where exactly the audiences / target demo are tuning-in. Need more movies then, it’s working. Last night was “The Matrix” and something else.

It’s school holidays, why is 10Shake still having pre school programs on during the day? They should be airing the primary school content at least from say 10am.

You could make the same argument for ABC Kids and ABC Me. I reckon you could merge both channels and have ABC TV Plus go all day and night.

Pretty unfair for Primary School kids, having to sit there bored without shows for their age group.
Also 1000th post! Yay!
