I’ve replied to the wrong comment…
Looks like they are interupting the kids program to schedule jnr master chef around 5pm on Shake now. (Since it back fired on Peach last minute yesterday)
Absolute morons.
They just have no idea.
What the hell are they doing?
They’re just shaking things up a bit.
They’re clearly just throwing darts at a board to see what sticks ratings wise, a bit silly considering how they promoted the new channel.
Any new audience enjoying the kids line-up will be straight back to ABC Kids.
One word - panicking
Us Regionals are not missing out on much by the look of it!!
I’d say this word is also fitting: Desperate
Anyone who has spent time in the UK and seen how Channel 5 is run wouldn’t be surprised by this at the moment.
It’s a joke in the UK and seems the strange management style is now continuing here in Australia.
They have misread the market and TV platform here in Australia by miles.
Exactly. It’s clear Viacom London is calling the shots and trying to treat their Australian network as the same as its UK cousin. If their excuse is to save money then the answer is that they won’t save much if they give 10 the ‘Five treatment’.
As for 10 Shake, I would prefer them to air things like first-run international drama/movies as well as overseas reality shows/classic Australian reality shows in primetime instead of the current garbage we’re putting up with. The daytime lineup is fine but primetime stinks.
Yet ratings have risen considerably since the Viacom acquisition. Go figure.
I don’t see how 10 is following 5’s lead? They cut their news department, like they’ve done over and over again in the last 30 years.
Channel 5 is run terribly but these actions are far more in common with the Australian market than the UK - changing schedules at last minutes and being so desperate for ratings they don’t give anything a chance has been seen time and time again with Aussie networks and their spin off channels. 7Flix had a similar panic when they launched, ditching their primetime movies left right and centre within a week of launch.
100% correct and I wasn’t talking about the changes in programming at the drop of a coin, but more about the overall running of channel 5.
From MediaWeek:
As to spreading the word about new channel 10 Shake, McGravey said: “It had something of a soft launch, but the daytime audience doubled in the first couple of weeks. We are targeting a very specific audience so we need to make sure those people find it. We have a long-term plan, although it is already hitting its initial targets in terms of kids. We now want more people to sample the primetime offering.”
Well checking primetime guide at 2pm for a program at 8pm, then tune in and it’s been dumped on the day last minute or filling early evening primetime with TBA isn’t the way to get people to tune in.
The commissions announced at the 10 upfronts yesterday very much screamed of the sort of functional but dull commissions we see at C5 rather than the flagship tentpole shows we normally see announced by the Aussie networks - although to be fair to Ten they’ve got a pretty good existing slate if they can get that content filmed next year.
