Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver DK Metcalf has been banned two games “for conduct detrimental to the NFL for initiating a physical confrontation with a fan”.

Metcalf faced disciplinary trouble after appearing to aim a punch at a fan during his team’s 29-24 win over the Detroit Lions.

While Metcalf reportedly plans on appealing the suspension, if the ban stands, the big-bodied pass-catcher will forfeit US$555,556 (AU$833,705) for the two missed games.

This important point was brought up earlier on ESPN Radio.

Because he’s a tosspot.

DK Metcalf did appeal the suspension but it has been upheld.

So the playoff results:

  • Lions out of contention (They don’t deserve a spot anyway after today’s 6 turnovers)
  • Broncos could lock up:
    – top seed if Chargers, Bills and Jaguars all couldn’t win and Patriots lose
    – AFC West if Chargers don’t win (but if they do, the teams will meet W18 for a division title decider)

Ravens has won but they aren’t safe yet. They are out of the WC race now so their only playoff path is division-clinching.

They then need the Browns to defeat Steelers on Monday. If that were to happen, Steelers-Ravens in week 18 would be division-decider.

Packers already clinched playoffs when Lions lost last week. But because of today’s loss, Bears have clinched NFC North.

For SNF, if 49ers don’t win, they can’t clinch the conference. A Seahawks win/tie earlier in the morning would ensure they can’t clinch the division either.

Packers may have clinched a spot but losing today wasn’t needed.

What SNF feels like right now.

49ers will have to win to set up a conference-clincher with Seahawks in Week 18. (Which they did.)

I was thinking exactly the same thing! I remember when Favre and Manning had a shoot-out as well… but nothing compared to that game back in 2018! Still one of my favorite regular season games of all time.

But yeah, what a game today… from the very first play!

As a backup, Willis played well, the Offensive Line wasn’t prepared for his running.

Willis looked good. He looked really good.

The most important matchups next week for playoff implications:

Panthers @ Bucs - Winner gets the NFC South divisional title and the final NFC playoff spot unless Atlanta wins both of its final two games, in which case Carolina will go through regardless.

Seahawks @ 49ers - Winner gets the NFC West divisional title and the No. 1 seed in the NFC, loser will be the 5 seed.

Ravens @ Steelers - Winner gets the AFC North title, loser is eliminated from the playoffs.

Outside of those, keep an eye on the Broncos, Patriots, and Jaguars games for the 1-seed in the AFC:

  • The Broncos just need to beat the Chargers
  • The Pats need a win against the Dolphins and a Broncos loss.
  • The Jags need a win against the Titans and both the Pats and Broncos to lose later in the day.

Patriots will win the Super Bowl defeating the Rams in a 7-3 low-scoring encounter

Big call.

Drake May would probably like this post. As for the Rams, when was the last time they played a game and only kicked a FG.

Good on you for nailing your flag to the mast so early, (gulp).

Seahawks clinch the division and the conference with a low-scoring win.

Earlier in the morning, Buccaneers won to keep their playoff chance alive. Suddenly, Falcons-Saints become a meaningful matchup.

Falcons win and Panthers in. Saints win and Buccaneers in. Simple.

With Atlanta’s win over New Orleans, the Panthers lock in the 4-seed and the NFC South division with an 8-9 record thanks to winning the three-way tiebreak. [Saints fan editorial: any day would be better with a Falcons loss, but I don’t mind seeing Carolina back in the playoffs again]

Meanwhile Jacksonville wrapped up the AFC South division against the Titans. It looks like in early play of the late window, however, they aren’t getting the help they need to become the 1-seed in the AFC: Both New England and Denver are up by multiple scores at time of writing.
