And Iâve noticed that thanks to YouTube including the music descriptions on some clips, we know the theme that followed Progress Report: Visions of Success by Warren Bennett
Which can be seen below:
Have been trying to find this for ages!
Prior to 2001, I wonder if the selection of WIN News closing theme music may have varied from market to market? Because all the clips Iâve seen suggest that Visions Of Success was used in Queensland, while Progress Report was used in Victoria.
The clips Iâve seen of WIN News Illawarra closers from 1999 (Thanks @Zampakid! ) suggests that prior to the 2001 relaunch, they were closing their bulletins with an instrumental version of the âWatch The World With Usâ music Nine (and WIN) was using to promote their news with in 1992 - same track was also used for Weather Updates during the Early-Mid 1990s.
And hereâs the original:
The nine-note signature was based on this song:
The theme â or a slightly modified version thereof â was also used in Australia:
Yes I was wondering that myself! Iâve seen a clip of WIN News SA also using the instrumental version of the âWatch the WorldâŠâ promo so assume that it was up to each market to choose.
I noticed that clips from WIN News Toowoomba from â96 were using Progress Report so I think QLD must have changed to Visions in maybe â97 or â98. Itâs a better theme than Steel in my opinion so wish theyâd stick with it.
Also the theme used in the summer of '86/87 for Ninâe â6.30â current affairs programme in place of Willesee.
Didnât know where to put this in the other forums so just put it here.
Iâve noticed that a number of television stations overseas use Australian TV themes. For example Mauritius.
Mauritian broadcaster MBC is the broadcaster serving the French community of Mauritius, and they have a news program called âLe Journalâ. Watch the following video between the 21:41 and the 21:52 mark.

Can you guess which theme this is? (HINT: Used on Saturday by the ABC for international news stories)
Anyway, if you guys also know any other broadcasters with TV Themes borrowed from Australia, add the info here.
The reverse is far more common â overseas, mostly American, news themes being used in Australia.
For instance, hereâs WABC in New York, the first station to use The Tar Sequence from Cool Hand Luke as a news theme; this clip is from 1970, about two years after the station adopted the theme:
WPVI was the first station to use Move Closer to Your World, which was used by the 0-10 stations in the 1980s:
Then thereâs Turn to News, another American local news package that made it to Ten; this example is from KYW:
Meanwhile, the CBS Evening News theme was used on National Nine Early News:
Hereâs the ABC News (U.S.) theme as heard on Nineâs Nightline:
âŠand so on.
I just love the theme â 30 Rock by Edd Kalehoff â heard in this spectacular 1990s news promo:
Iâm just gonna leave this here and let people decide for themselves.
A wonderful news theme from HĂr TV in Hungary:
Another legendary 1990s promo theme by Edd Kalehoff; WNBCâs Weâre 4 New York, a wonderful â and wonderfully cheesy â homage to that city and its people:
And this is how it sounded as a news theme:
An epic theme in an epic Russian news promo:
One of my all time favourites.
One News 2004ish. I love it! (0:37)
(Also the Hawkesby-Young Duo is weird to watch)
I love the pace of this theme I just wish there was a long version of it somewhere, plus from this clip has lots of cuts featured which is a rare feature these days.
The NBC Nighlty News used a very funky closing theme in the early-to-mid-1970s:
And hereâs an almost two-minute close to the NBC Nightly News from 1988 featuring The Mission:
EMTV in Papua New Guinea was formerly owned by PBL, the owner of Nine, and still uses Nineâs version of Cool Hand Luke â as well as several other Nine elements â on its national news:
The picture quality is terrible, but I love this news 1988 close, both for the news theme and the live tour of the stationâs newsroom / production facility:
