Vogue’s Edwina McCann: News Corp planning Prestige Network expansion

Mumbrella has learned News Corp is planning to expand its Prestige News Network as Vogue takes over the Sydney Opera House for a day this week.

The brand has managed to diversify its revenue streams in this market. That includes events, with two on the calendar for 2025 – Forces of Fashion this Friday (February 13) and Vogue Codes (later in the year).

McCann revealed the company has plans to expand the News Prestige Network, perhaps as soon as this year.

In addition to Vogue Australia, News Prestige includes other licensed Conde Nast titles Vogue Living and GQ plus magazine inserts The Australian Weekend Magazine and Wish.

“We intend to bring some new brands to Australia, which is very exciting, because they are ones that will resonate with new readers, and build out audiences for News. It will also introduce new clients to News. I enjoy leading growth assets – I’m not very good at just maintenance.”

Prestige News Network: For the wanker in your life.

4 cents to 5 dollars in 60 years: As cover prices go up, newsprint’s time is running out

I’m surprised people are willing to pay $5 for a newpaper.

Especially a news corp publication.

Good point that a lot of the value people still have in newspapers is the curation. Which is why I’ve kept my 6-day AFR subscription. Probably paying well over $120 a month by now. The Australian app used to be a daily edition, variously 1:1 with the printed paper, which was useful as a once daily hit of news.

The quality of the Sunday papers (both News and Nine) have really declined in the last 12-18 months. I wouldn’t pay $5 to buy a physical copy now

My thoughts exactly.

Stellar is a symbol of the decline of News Corp’s Sunday papers. A few years ago it was a glossy, A5 size magazine. Then it was paired with the TV liftout and the paper changed from glossy to newsprint. Last year it became just a 8-page liftout.

Seb Costello bails on Daily Mail, joins the Herald Sun

Seb Costello will be joining the Herald Sun as a senior reporter, following a brief stint as a Daily Mail columnist.

Costello spent 13 years at Nine, including as a reporter on A Current Affair, as the network’s European correspondent, and a role at 3AW.

He was introduced by the Daily Mail late last year in a “brand new gossip column” as “Melbourne’s ultimate insider”.

But Costello started contributing to the Herald Sun last month, and will join the newsroom as a senior reporter on Monday (February 23).

Seems an appropriate fit for him.

Last Sunday and today, Phil Rothfield has been recalling his top 100 moments in Australian sport of the past 50 years. Here is the top 10.

10th. The death of Phillip Hughes (forever 63 not out)
9th. The Matildas’ campaign at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup
8th. The underarm ball (Australia v New Zealand in 1981)
7th. Fine Cotton
6th. John Aloisi’s penalty shootout goal at Australia v Uruguay World Cup qualifier in 2005
5th. Australia II’s win in the 1983 America’s Cup
4th. The Super League War
3rd. World Series Cricket
2nd. Cathy Freeman winning the women’s 400m at the 2000 Sydney Olympics
1st. Shane Warne’s “Ball of the Century” in the Old Trafford Ashes test in 1993

News Corp would take the medal for pettiness and never missing an opportunity to kick down on its opponents. Gutter press as far as I am concerned and I will not spend a cent on a News Corp publication.
