Those FM translators are presumably on and still the Newcastle audience doesn’t want to listen to poor quality talk programs lacking content discipline.

2HD could clean up on FM (from Sugarloaf) with a music format to trouble the top end of 102.9’s audience base and pinch many off 2NUR, yet I doubt they have the programming nous.

They are, in glorious mono… 2HD nearly getting beaten by Radio National should be a wake up call, but it probably won’t.

Very very sad situation. So easily avoided too.

The 10 year graph for 2HD is, well… :grimacing:

2HD need to drop their local Weekday Afternoon programme (The Hunter Today) and just re-introduce the network feed (Talkin’ Sport). There’s no ROI here.

As for NewFM, the writing is clear. They are an “at work music station”. Their weakness (as we’ve known for decades), is their programming. I’d ditch all announcers and run with music shifts.

The drive shift which includes Talkin’ Sport is being beaten by ABC Classic and only just ahead of News Radio. How long can they keep pushing on with this for.

Talkin’ Sport rated higher when they took more of the networked show than today with its local programming 3-5pm.

Ratings have declined with the addition of The Hunter Today, further adding to the point that, “just because you’re local, it doesn’t mean you’ll rate”. If this were the case, we’d have community radio stations topping every survey.

I might be wrong but I think Brent used to do an extra hour to 2HD before he took time away.

As you’ve said before a lot of the issues stem from the presenters, I’ve never heard it but I can imagine what that hour of radio would be like.

As for talkin sport if they want to persist with that show it needs media talent rather than mates.
