New Zealand TV

Honestly thought this channel was on the chopping block after it got pushed so far down the EPG and the same 4 shows on repeat, weird.

Does that signal HBO Max on Sky to end this early?

It will end mid year and HBO Max will launch separately around the same time.

Ah interesting, wonder if HBO Channel 10 will end too.

I was hoping HBOs deal with Sky would be good news for three, but as always the case just seems three is cursed. At the end of the day I cannot wait for HBO MAX, the neon app sucks, and Sky is really only surviving due to sports, so this is a good move, more compitition means more competitive pricing

Sky’s presser doesn’t list the HBO channel as part of the continuing WBD channel portfolio. Most likely dead.

Sky insinuates they walked away from the deal, not the other way around. Could be corporate spin but I would’ve thought holding onto WBD & HBO content would be good business.

I was thinking the same thing, we could finally see HBO Max content on Three Now to boost its content options but alas it’s not to be :sob:

Suggests they didn’t want co-exclusive and I’d suggest that would be wise. No value really there, better to build other brands rather than hype up another.

This was never going to happen though.
HBO Max is a premium (paid) product, Three Now is ad supported tat (mostly).

I know this, its when Sky would play it’s premium content on Sky Open later in the year, I was hopeful it would end up on ThreeNow. The White Lotus and Euphoria have both ended up free on SkyGo for a short window because of this strategy.

I think the days of people being prepared to wait for those shows are long, long gone

So, I guess WBD offloading +HR=E to Sky for $1 last year an advanced part of all this? To sweeten the divorce?

WBD wanted out of NZ/linear channels in NZ
If Sky didn’t buy it it would have likely been gone

Unfortunately for Neon a lot of the Max content is clearly labelled so and prominent throughout the service. Its going to leave a large gap content for them. Knowing Sky’s track record I would be surprised if there is a price drop for Neon, all good, I will probably drop it in favour of HBO Max as the content linked to WBD is what I tend to watch on there.

Replace Neon with Binge and Sky with Foxtel, and things seem incredibly similar on both sides of the ditch.

HBO was one of the last big draws for the entertainment package, would not be surprised if we see most of those satellite channels outside of Sport cut before the end of the decade.

Also really annoying this means yet another streaming service down here but I guess they’re hoping that Netflix deal takes a while to sort out so they can make a bit of dough on their own.
