Is anyone surprised? Lol

You want the host to be likeable. Like Bradley Walsh. Not a dickhead that you wanna bash.

Paul Henry is polarising but he’s still well liked by a lot of NZers.

PH is a good choice imo. I will be surprised if this doesn’t rate thru the roof

Reruns of The Simpsons are set to return to TVNZ 2 and Duke from June 16th. What’s old is new again.

Woo-hoo! Homer Simpson’s back on free-to-air TV. The Simpsons resumes from episode one of season 34 on June 16, in a 6.00 weeknight slot on TVNZ 2. Sister channel Duke also goes back to the future with a 7.30 weeknight block of double-episodes, starting from E1 of S17. The iconic ‘toon has been missing from prime-time ever since Disney+ launched and retained it as an exclusive drawcard for subscribers. But such have been the travails of streaming that the likes of Disney have started licensing their content to third parties again (Three recently picked up Will Trent). It’s not clear if The Simpsons is a one-off acquisition or part of a Disney package TVNZ has secured — or how far behind the Disney+ streams TVNZ 2’s broadcasts will lag (the streamer’s up to S36). In the meantime, it helps to plug a hole in TVNZ 2’s evening line-up that re-runs of Seinfeld and Aussie game show Deal or No Deal failed to fill in the wake of Friends becoming a Max exclusive and the ageing Big Bang Theory shifting back to 5.00 weekdays.

Also mentioned in the ScreenScribe article above is that Three has bought 4-part observational health series Do You Want to Live Forever? from UK distributor Hat Trick, and will show it at 7.30pm Tuesdays from June 17.

The program aired nearly a year ago on Nine in Australia and was hosted by Tracy Grimshaw and Dr Nick Coatsworth.

Yes, that would probably be like mid 90s till early 2000s where TV2 used to run their re-runs competing aganist the News on TV One and TV3. I was surprised The Simpsons are back on TVNZ 2 screens for a third stint despite bad press in 2022 where the broadcaster treat the show shabbily where TVNZ 2 moving the show around like Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 6pm where it made them their contract let them go. I am surprised WBD have not picked up The Simpsons like Will Trent and 9-1-1 franchise’s.

It’s finally happened, HD is available on Freeview Satellite albeit with just TVNZ 1, 2 and Duke. Such a long wait for this moment, I thought this day would never come :joy:

Seasons 1-10 or bust IMO :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Everything WBD has touched since the merger seems to have turned to shit. They do run linear channels in other small countries, noteably in Scandinavia, quite successfully although rely mostly on imports and broadcast from outside of the countries (from London) to get around regulation.

Slightly off-topic - but I think the Scandi channels are actually broadcast out of Scandinavia now (shocker, I know!). Thanks to a combination of Brexit and looser regulations in Scandinavia.

Most of them are licensed out of Baveria now. Don’t know where they’re transmitted from, I think it was only the old Viasat/Modern Times channels that were controled from London. BLM - Auslandsgenehmigungen

8-part drama series The Messenger, based on the award winning Australian novel of the same name by Markus Zusak, premieres on TVNZ 1 on Saturday, June 21, at 10.45pm. It was filmed mostly in Lithgow in central west NSW in 2022.

It looks like TVNZ will be broadcasting some NPC games via a new deal with Sky Sport this coming season…

What’s the point of owning Sky Open, they might as well sell it off tbh.

Reading the article, this seems similar to the current ANZ Championship rights deal in that Sky benefits from working with TVNZ because by sharing NPC rights, they won’t be taking on the sole burden of production costs for televised matches.

By contrast, Sky have many other rights where it’s beneficial for them to maintain exclusivity and provide a ‘breadcrumb’ FTA offering (e.g., showing a weekly game or two through the ridiculous ‘live start’ format).
