The National Wreathlaying Service in Wellington due for 11am has been cancelled/downscaled due to high winds - so TVNZ1 is replaying the dawn service from this morning.
Surely not!
Another day ending in Y in that city I would have thought
Im guessing that WBDâs shutting down of Newshub is the reason why The Nation TV show never made it to air this year?
Weâre lucky to be getting even that⌠were the fees not about to be waived I suspect weâd be seeing TV3 close down altogether. Hell, Warners might still decide to pull the plug in due course!
Very likely.
Which is why the broadcast fee shouldnât be waved for WBD. If WBD canât operate Three effectively then it is time for them to part company - it shouldnât be seen that they either do it the WBD way or not at all. Obviously the climate would be tough for anyone taking over the channel but much greater justification in waving the fees should a local based consortium take it over than for an international media conglomerate who couldnât care less about their impact on the NZ media landscape.
On TVNZ 2 next Friday after The Amazing Race finishes, the channel will revive Friday Night films starting with the 2005 film The Bridge.
The problem is⌠who would buy TV3? I take your point, definitely - I donât even disagree with you - but I just donât see who in NZ would be interested in taking it on. Sky? They already own a free-to-air channel and seem content using that to advertise their paid services. I canât see NZME and Stuff wanting in either⌠so whoâs left? TVNZ probably wouldnât, and definitely shouldnât, be allowed to buy it for obvious reasons.
What are the ratings like for Sky Open (crap name, Prime was much better) compared to Three and TVNZ1/2?
Paramount Global can buy TV3 it would be much better. If WBD will be selling TV3.
I have not looked into the NZ TV ratings lately, but it suggested way behind
Well no because thatâd just be passing it like a hot potato to another struggling American conglomerate, especially one which is in the process of trying to go through with their own merger.
Iâd imagine if TV3 was sold in the near future, itâd probably be to a Canwest-type company.
I doubt Paramount would want to buy TV3 if WBD wanted to offload it. And correct me if i am wrong but Paramount are considering offloading itâs linear assets (e.g. CBS, Channel 5 UK, Channel 10 Australia).
Exactly, I donât think any other owner could make a better go of the business than what WBD have done. If sky were to buy it there would be an increase of sport on Three but thatâs about it, they invested minimal local content in the FTA market with prime and their interest in producing their own news service is evident.
I donât think Sky would buy Three and their channels business, but there is an argument that if WBD arenât willing to pay the licence fee to be on Channel 3 then Sky might be if they think Sky Open would benefit from the higher slot, especially as appears to be the casse there are no programming requirements from holding the licence (which is odd).
Australian comedy panel show The Hundred, hosted by comedian Andy Lee, premieres on TVNZ 2 tomorrow (April 30) at 8.30pm. Six seasons have been made so far, with season 6 having aired in Australia from February to March this year.
A rare glimpse at TV ratings in NZâŚmight need some interpreting.
And here for comparisons sake is a random night from the corresponding week 10 years ago
