TVNZ channels knocked partially off the air this afternoon due to fire alarm at their base.

TVNZ froze on a State Insurance ad and then cut to black for about five minutes before ads resumed.

TVNZ2 seemed to freeze on stills of ads for a few minutes around 2:50, before going to a still of the TVNZ1 rolling ball ident.

Both channels have jumped back into programming where they should be, missing the starts of Tipping Point and Shortland Street on 1/2.

Duke was fine until it took an ad break and obviously couldn’t return to programme after, now displaying this slide despite the others being back on air:

Is anybody having some hard hearing to the audio on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ 2?

SKY RENEWS SATELLITE DEAL WITH MORE FLEXIBILITY

Sky has agreed a revised contract with Optus that delivers satellite capability for the next ten years, with the ability to flex the transponder capacity taken by Sky over the term of the arrangement with corresponding cost savings, and exciting new functionality.

Signature of this revised contract enables Optus to commit to build and launch the first of a new breed of software-defined Ku-band satellites that will deliver greater functionality compared to the existing D1 satellite. The game-changing ‘Optus 11’ satellite is fully configurable in space, meaning its coverage, bandwidth and capacity can be changed in orbit as customer demands evolve – where traditional satellites are limited by on-ground configurations that cannot be altered after launch.

Optus has today informed its investors that the Sky commitment allows it to proceed with the launch programme, with the new software-defined satellite scheduled to be ready for use in late 2023.

The new satellite, which will be deployed in the same geostationary orbital location as the D1 satellite, allows Sky and Freeview to continue to share the same satellite. This will maintain satellite distribution as a cost effective and reliable distribution platform for the whole of New Zealand.

Does this mean Freeview Satellite will finally go HD? Does anyone on here know please?

10 part documentary series Inside Taronga Zoo, narrated by Naomi Watts, premieres on TVNZ1 next Tuesday (July 7) at 7.30pm. It was shown on Nine in Australia earlier this year as Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo.
More information about this show can be found at Taronga Zoo website

Potentially, but don’t hold your breath. Optus11 won’t be launched for years yet.

Yeah, I found the background music was way too loud and the vocal tracks quieter than usual… but that was only during The Chase. Might have something to do with TVNZ’s wee episode yesterday afternoon… it wiped both +1 channels off my satellite box, as in removed them, rather than a blank screen. Strange.

They had a server fire from what I read on the Freeview Facebook page that affected the transmission gear.

New local drama series Head High debuted to just 89,000 viewers last Sunday on Three!

Fortunately it managed 102,200 more for its repeat screening on Wednesday which will be its regular time slot.

Heres more info on how bad it did and how it wasn’t helped by TVNZ 1’s Chaser spinoff:

MasterChef’s defeat of BB in major demographics on premiere night was a reverse of what happened in Australia, when BB beat MC on June 8.

Not sure if it is ok to post about Sky Tv on this thread but just seen this pop up on the Sky Box tonight on Channel 100 “Nick Music” with the EPG currently showing “Nick Music: Starts Tomorrow”
It appears it launches at 6am tomorrow morning as that is the first listed shows of “Nick Music” with the info “Welcome to Nick Music. we’re Bringing you the best kid-friendly music of the moment 24/7”

At least NZ audiences can recognise a steaming pile of turd when they see it, I am not surprised by this.

Content wise it seems Three is in a similar position to that of our Channel 10 (maybe in the past, moreso than of late) with relying on similar content to fill gaps - especially repeats.

It’s sounding pretty certain that Discovery has bought Three: Stuff

Discovery, together with one of its shareholders, owns All3Media, which in turn owns South Pacific Pictures – New Zealand’s largest TV production company.
SPP produces Shortland Street and it is possible, although not very likely, that Discovery might want the soap to screen on Three.

Imagine that…

Discovery has shown that it knows how to operate FTA channels and if it launches its AVOD service Dplay here, its very deep pockets will worry TVNZ.

Hope they do launch a decent streaming service, ThreeNow has always been rubbish and finally they could compete with TVNZ OD.
