New Zealand Radio

I’m in Wanganui, about 127km as the crow flies, and 1053kHz is live, but 1035 crashes over the top of it a bit (ZB signal from Wellington). I didn’t wait for a station-ID, but it sounded like NZME’s “Gold.”

thanks

Local Tauranga breakfast show on Coast will be replaced with Toni, Jason and Sam.

The Country Sport Breakfast was originally hosted out of Dunedin.

Also Doug Kamo announced as Callum Proctors replacement on The Hits Dunedin.

?

Well, that Frequency is still in use somewhere near me.

Coast’s breakfast share dropped significantly in Tauranga this year, could be part of the reason for the shift.

So ZM is currently playing Back to Back “All I want for Christmas” - Mariah Carry

Yeah I am sure that’s one way to annoy your audience, but what a good laugh :joy:

Anyone want to guess how much royalties she would be getting from ZM alone hehe

They started playing All I Want For Christmas Is You since 7am this morning. Currently by the time I’m texting, they are still playing this on loop :joy:

Its the one Christmas song they have been actually been allowed to play in frequent rotation on the station this year.

Coast and The Hits have only been playing Christmas songs this morning as well.

I can imagine many listeners would be saying: “All I want for Bloody Christmas is a Radio Station that doesn’t keep playing back to back Mariah Carey’s All I want For Christmas” LOL

Agreed.

The song might be fine once or twice at the start of December, but by the 25th I think all but the most ardent of Mariah Carey fanatics would be sick of hearing it. Similar deal with Wham’s “Last Christmas” and other such tracks typically popular around this time of year.

It’s a stunt and has got talk all over social media.

It’s pretty funny…and since there’s no advertising on Xmas day and listeners aren’t likely to be really listening in droves, it’s a bit of a gag that works.

The Hits has a new voice over plus new news intro. It sound a bit like KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne

The new voiceover guy has been there since April.

They have also changed the playlist since this imaging refresh. The 80’s music is all but gone and they are playing more songs from the mid 2000’s

I am currently in the Queenstown and Central Otago area and interestingly ‘Ferg’ The Hits local breakfast announcer is still on air but from 9am-12pm over summer. Contains a lot of local information and community stuff for the area so definitely a good idea to offer something for the audience in the area when its so busy!

Speaking of imaging refreshes, sounds like Newstalk ZB has adopted a new one as we hit midnight and welcomed in a new year. New news theme, sport stab and weather from what I heard a few moments ago.

Sounds good, is Magic getting a refresh?

Think it had been about 4 years since the last update to the news intros on ZB.

Not sure about the punctuator in the new ZB news intro - sounds distorted in parts? Definitely prefer the last imaging - but I do like the rest of it.
