Everyone’s a winner, lol.

But from what I can see it wasn’t a good survey for The Edge or The Rock… and NZME’s changes to Breakfast on The Hits & Coast haven’t shown any growth in ratings

Has Discovery taken charge of three yet? I wonder why Newshub is still so biased towards mediaworks. Both newshub and the Herald are legitimate news services, they need to at least start to pretend to be non-partisan in their reporting

Not yet! The sale is to go or is going through the overseas investment office once that is finished the sale would be complete and I’m sure there will be an announcement at the time.

WORLD CLASS HARGREAVES STREET PREMISES

MediaWorks has officially opened its brand new, state-of-the-art Hargreaves Street premises, welcoming customers and media to an event on behalf of its radio and outdoor businesses today.

The former storage warehouse has been custom built into a 4,440 square metre media hub, representing the future of MediaWorks Group as it continues to focus on the growth and success of its radio and out-of-home divisions, ensuring both maintain their market leading position with over 2.4 million weekly listeners and 1,700 advertising panels across the country.

With 110,000 kilograms of gib board, 210 kilometres of wood and 137 kilometres of cable, the property was built by Hawkins and is home to nine radio stations and 16 radio studios as well as MediaWorks’ out-of-home division, QMS. The build was designed by leading commercial architecture firm Warren and Mahoney and also features a bespoke Autex treatment in reception - the first of its kind.

The technology that underpins the content delivery from Hargreaves Street represents a significant upgrade in capability and is one of the world’s largest deployments of Audio over IP. It also has built-in video capability and is one of the first sites in New Zealand to provide fully digital services right up to the transmission endpoint, providing our presenters and content teams with a customised toolbox of touch screen technology at their fingertips. The core platforms were designed and implemented with the help of LAWO/PAT and Broadcast Bionics/AVC.

It has been a three year journey to opening the doors with MediaWorks beginning the search for a new home for its radio brands in May 2017. After extensive research, the location was decided in May 2018 with work beginning in September the same year, followed by fit out commencing from January 2019. Its radio and outdoor brands began relocating from their existing premises from June 2020.

Jack Matthews, MediaWorks Chairman, says:
“This is a huge milestone for MediaWorks with this property representing the future of our business. It is an opportunity for our outdoor and radio divisions to come together, collaborate across all of our brands and celebrate the diversity that makes our business the special place that it is.”

“Bringing our brands together into one home is the next step in enabling our business to have a greater strategic focus on the long-term growth and success of our radio and out-of-home channels. MediaWorks has a very bright future and through this unique and powerful combination, we will now accelerate the opportunities that exist for our clients.”

With ZM pushing the ‘Play ZM’ tagline to promote its online streaming, NZME really need to look at making sure the advertising on iheart radio is relevant to the location of the listener.

The advertising on the platform can be all over the place, especially compared to Rova who offer local streams. Sometimes I have local advertising then the next ad break its Auckland based advertisers or a combo of both. Not sure if NZME charge its advertisers separately for iheart streams or promotes it as an extension of its terrestrial broadcasts?

I don’t think the average listener cares…

Yeah, quite right. Just wondered from an advertisers point of view.

I think it depends if they’ve been sold. They use AdsWizz to target where possible but it can be problematic.

i stream rova during the day More often than not
i get auckland streaming but sometimes if i refresh i get my region
not a big deal as i listen for the music but i do find it amusing hearing about traffic snarl ups

Just had Survey 3. Think it’s just a long weekend thing!

Yeah this drives me up the wall, I noticed yesterday when I was streaming ZM one minute I was getting Tauranga commercials and then I was getting Auckland, sometimes the breaks can be all Auckland, sometimes all local such as Tauranga, and then sometimes it can be a mix of Local and Auckland.
As said above Rova gives the phone local, which I prefer cause then you hear local commercials and also get to hear what is happening locally

I listen to a lot of NZ radio via iHR app and Rova. Can’t say I’ve ever had that issue. I guess being in Australia it will always default to Auckland?
I have noticed that you can get Australian ads on iHR which spins me out haha.

It’s great to hear Hamish Denton (TVNZ voiceover guy) doing voicebreaks on Coast during the long weekend.

I thought that was the TVNZ voiceover guy!

He was on last weekend as well, I think they have rejigged the weekend roster so he may be a regular on Saturdays now. Also heard him on Gold.

He is actually quite a good announcer, not just another generic back announcer.
