New Zealand Radio

The AM frequencies sounds like it will be a throwback to the old Hokonui Gold days.

Yes…I doubt it’s gone down particularly well internally.
They could easily have kept Radio Sport and infused more rural content to it, in order to keep it sustainable. Perhaps extended out The Country/The Country: Early Edition into supersized shows, other features through the day. But clearly they wanted it gone.

I think the music Mix (sorry) on Gold, will be relatively close to Mix but you’re right. Especially in its early days, the Music mix (sorry, again) on Mix was stunningly good…even our most famous artist thought so…

Mix was brilliant when it first launched. So many tracks from the 80’s and 90’s that never got played on the radio and many that I discovered for the first time. They strongly weakened it at the end of 2016 when they added in the 70’s music and these days it plays a standard somewhat overplayed rotation.

Not great timing but it adds to the suspicion that the Radio Sports closure was happening with or without the covid lockdown.

The stations cost will be much lower and I suspect they will probably have minimal announcers outside of breakfast and they will probably be voice tracked.

The breakfast show looks as though it will be done out of the Dunedin studios as Lee Piper is Dunedin based.

Sounds like good moves from NZME but why name a hybrid station Gold? Keeping the name Mix for a station playing 60s/70s/80s music plus the sport and rural element would have made sense IMO.

I was wondering what was happening with RNZ youth station… Not a lot.

Great another delay and then the eventual we wont being moving forward with this at all. This youth brand can’t catch a break imho, add to this with RNZ+. Is there a curse here that prevents RNZ from launching long overdue initiatives.

The curse is that everyone at RNZ is so old-school they don’t like to change anything.

As we possibly expected Dave Fitzgerald (Ex The Hits Christchurch) has joined Mediaworks and will be paired up with Hilary Muir for breakfast on The Breeze Canterbury.

We moved into our new building before all the other radio stations, so we decided to f*ck around with as much stuff as we could…

That’ll be a no then.

I think the colour scheme of the studios lets it all down. Would have been far better having it black.

Great move. Fitzy is the most underrated broadcaster in NZ for nine. Elevates every broadcaster he’s worked with (Jason, Ally, Brodie and others) and incredibly generous with his talent and no ego.

The Hits had a long term drive show when they had Jase and Dave but let it slip.

He is very underrated indeed. I first listened to him when he used to do Breakfast on Classic Hits Dunedin with Patrina Roche in the early 2000’s. Very popular duo in Dunedin at the time who left in 2005 to take over the Christchurch breakfast show. I still prefer the Dave & P duo over the Callum & P one.

Aside from Polly & Grant, what other radio shows were or are being axed in the restructure at Mediaworks?
I did see that the 12-6pm show on Radio Dunedin was…

Having a quick look around, More FM have made one member of the Manawatu breakfast show redundant. They have also axed the local Taupo day show. Nothing else stands out so far.

Can’t remember if it’s been posted but appears Mike Currie from The Sound won’t be back.

They are currently playing songs with Gold in the Title on Gold’s iheartradio stream.

Promos so far feature the same voiceover guy as ZB and Coast and Georgia Cubbon from Hauraki.

Is there any word if the gold fm stations will have annoncers or is it going to be a jukebox like mix was
