New Zealand Radio

Polly and Grant have finished up on More FM - Last show this morning. Polly posted a video confirming the decision but she leaves on good terms this time unlike the NZME departure lol. Podcasting via Rova seems to be in the works.

Looks like it came down to cost versus ratings for them right now and the fact that The Breeze has a local and successful breakfast show.

Does that leave The Breeze as the only local breakfast show? Sad state of affairs for NZ radio where a city of 400k+ can have so many commercial stations and only 1 local breakfast show

Ellie is leaving ZM’s Bree and Clint at the end of this week. She’s doing more video and television work.

For commercial radio it is, although its familiar territory for Wellington as it was like that prior to Polly and Grant joining More FM Wellington.

Christchurch is similar though at the moment. The Breeze is the only local breakfast show on commercial radio.

Even Auckland only has The Breeze as the real local breakfast show in the city. While the bulk of the shows are based in the city it is to a nationwide audience.

MediaWorks redundancies: More FM’s Polly Gillespie, Grant Kereama confirm job losses

Polly Gillespie and Grant Kereama have done their last breakfast show for More FM and MediaWorks.

Gillespie confirmed the news in an Instagram video today, saying it was a sad time but definitely not the end of their career, as she revealed some details of her next projects.

Speculation about their future emerged when sources told the Herald the high-profile broadcasters were among those affected by restructure proposals at MediaWorks, which could see up to 130 jobs lost.

brutal time in the media all over the show
was only a matter of time
i can see a time radio will have no personalties at all
it will be just wall to waLL music

It’s a real shame how local radio has been decimated in the last 15 years. Deregulation might have given a competitive marketplace with a number of brands and different formats than what are seen overseas but it’s lost the local edge because broadcasters aren’t compelled to provide local content.

So true. Regulation is really the only way to ensure local content remains otherwise there is no directive for these large radio companies to keep it.

The UK over the last couple of years is a good example of what happens when regulations are relaxed. And how many people in the US have to endure Ryan Seacrest who gets repackaged as a 10-2pm day show across the country because I-heart media keeps reducing its staff to pay off its huge debt it has built up as it has significantly grown due to deregulation.

Jay-Jay Feeney on Polly & Grant axing :
“I’ve been told I’m safe but that could change at any time… Anything can happen, we’re all nervous and worried for each other. It’s a horrible time.”
“It’s all about the ratings,” Feeney said.

“It makes me nervous. It makes me scared” … not sure talking to media is a great idea when you’re worried about job security

Anyone know when the stations move in?

She’s fine. It was much easier to replace Polly and Grant with a show that’s mostly national anyway, than it would be to replace her and Flynny. Ratings would be on her side as well if I recall correctly

George FM has moved from their Ponsonby Road studios to the new MediaWorks Hargreaves Street Headquarters, the new home for MediaWorks Radio and QMS NZ.

MediaWorks Radio brands will be moving individually into the new building over the next couple of months. Magic Talk will be the final brand to move from TV3’s Flower Street HQ to Hargreaves in September.

The MediaWorks Hargreaves project is the world’s biggest Audio over IP installation.

Nice! Did they move George over first because their studio was the most hideous?

I think the lease on the building is first to go followed by 239 Ponsonby Road then Fountain Court

@medianz MediaWorks Radio’s brand new headquarters at Hargreaves Street seems to be pretty flash. During the next few months MediaWorks Radio brands will be moving individually into the new building and by September, Magic Talk will be the final brand to move from Flower Street, the home of MediaWorks TV.
