New Zealand Radio

No.

My understanding is CBA wear the costs of the production but the airtime is given freely.

From NZ On Air 2010 report.

The Christian Broadcasting Association provides an annual Christmas Day special on Newstalk ZB. This programme serves the dual purpose of providing programming that reflects this important day and also allows station staff to have a well-earned break. The programme features well-known New Zealanders including Pat Brittenden, Petra Bagust and Ian Grant.

The CBA raises funds to contribute to the costs of producing the show. This year the CBA extended the programme duration from 12 to 18 hours - a very good programming investment.

Something may have changed.

Nothing has changed. It’s exactly as I said. ZB give CBA the airtime and CBA pay and produce the programming

I imagine it works in ZB’s favour to continue have CBA programming on those days, with the added bonus of commercials and sponsorships.

And there’s no reason why it can’t continue.

Will be interesting to see if the Rhema Stations play ads on those days… will they give into temptation?

Arguably the advertising rules should have been abolished in 1999/2000 when the Broadcasting License Fee got canned. But yeah, for nostalgia’s sakes, it’s a wee bit sad.

The BSA is looking at investigating a complaint made around comments Plunket made on The Platform referring to Maori tikanga being “mumbo jumbo”. He’s telling the BSA to get stuffed as he says he’s outside of their jurisdiction.

However I read elsewhere Radio Aotearoa relays The Platform’s shows in the morning. Wouldn’t that count as a terrestrial platform, therefore under the BSA’s authority?

I would think so, yes.

RNZ Culture 101 co-host and producer Mark Amery appears to be axed with job redundancies coming to play.

What year are we in?

Bye bye Magic

Not the most inspiring rebrand. If that’s the strategy maybe The Sound should have become The Rock Classic, Mai becomes The Edge R&B and George becomes The Edge Dance :joy:

Part of me wonders if they will pull their ratings together like they did with Magic and Magic Talk

Over the past year, we’ve been asking listeners what music they want. Some wanted a more classic hits playlist, while others wanted one that’s more contemporary.

That’s the kind of listener feedback felt enough to relaunch a station? A 50/50 (or some others but definitely not 100/0) split?

May as well expand Magic to the early 80s.

Sad really. Magic was a good station.

My suspicion is the listeners told them they didn’t want the Magic music anymore - and it’s why they’ve also moved The Sound to the 1990s

On their facebook page, the commentors are always complaining that there is too much 80’s music.

The Breeze or Magic?

Magic.
