A lot of people are complaining online about martin devlin on the sound saying he is not a fit and the format of the breakfast show is not right..trying to be a talkfest as opposed to just playing music which they did at the start things may improve over time but not a lot of happy campers
Ex sound breakfast host and voice of the warriors nik brown is now doing afternoons on smooth fm
Thatâs the one, sorry I got my wires crossed there.
He used to be on The Sound though, didnât he? Or some other Mediaworks station? Maybe Iâm thinking of Radio Live.
Radio live i think dont think he hss ever been on the sound before
NZME Chief Financial Officer David Mackrell is off to Sky TV next year.
Listening to some of the Between Two Beers Podcast with Jay Reeve today. He claims that Flynny and himself were offered the breakfast role on ZM first before they went to Fletch and Vaughn. He declined as he wanted Hauraki breakfast. Interesting proposition, thoughts on whether the show would have lasted or at least rated competitively? My thoughts are no and I was a listener or this show back then.
Yes I thought that was interesting too! Said he went to ZM to eventually move to Breakfast when Polly & Grant moved on, and then when the job came up he reckons he said no to it and that he wanted Hauraki breakfast. Doesnât make a lot of sense ehâŚ
And for those who havenât listened yet to the podcast⌠they had given him a contract for breakfast but wanted him to stay on ZM drive till end of year so not so many changes. But cos he had the contract (2 yr) they changed breakfast hours and gave him that 5-6am show on Hauraki and âHosking moneyâ & bosses tried to performance manage him out early.
I think Jay & Flynny would have done as good as Toni, Sam & Sarah/ Laura but thatâs not saying much lol
No, not at all. I just donât see that show being tasked with revamping the ZM brand in 2014 so it would be interesting to know if that really is the truth, although Jay seems pretty honest. TRN were also trying to sign Jay Jay and Dom as well back then but for separate stations.

Megan Whelan resigns from Radio New Zealand
Radio New Zealandâs Head of Content Megan Whelan has resigned from the national broadcaster.
Whelan is known for her strong advocacy of editorial independence and her leadership during a challenging period for public media in New Zealand.
Whelan has worked for the NZ public broadcaster for over nine years, beginning as an engagement editor, moving to the role of digital editor, then taking up the role of Head of Content in 2019.
Why doesnât RNZ relaunch the old Kiwi or even resurrect Channel Z on the available 102.2 frequency in Auckland, and then roll it out nationally?
As an alternative music format it would be able to push the boundaries and give NZers a government run alternative station like the ABC has in Australia, with Triple J and Double J.
MediaWorks do have Channel X, but this format is mostly alt-rock as well as middle of the road hits (with some edgier tracks thrown in) from the 90s and 2000s, so it wouldnât impact them a great deal.
And Richard Sutherland (former head of RNZ News & Newshub) has been brought in to review RNZâs live radio operation and content. He has finished and submitted his report with the findings to be shared in the coming weeks.
RNZ, which once led the market based on cumulative audience, is now eighth, behind commercial news rival Newstalk ZB and six music stations (Breeze, More FM, ZM, The Edge, The Rock and Mai FM).
Ah, Richard Sutherland for IRN, keeping you informedâŚ
One of the great music announcers on NZ radio Angelina Grey has left her role at Radio Hauraki.
Because they donât have the license to use it, or that particular band of FM frequencies.
Thatâs not true. The 102.2 frequency has been reserved for the government to use, but RNZ have decided not to use it.
They should just give the frequency to RNZâs youth platform Tahi tbh.
Look it up in the RSM.
Kara Rickard announced as new host of Music 101 on RNZ. She will begin this Saturday.
Not sure where to put this.
MediaWorks today announced a significant expansion of its New Zealand portfolio, securing a new long-term agreement with Auckland Transport for its four prized Out of Home concessions: street furniture, vehicular based (transit) media, transport hubs and billboards.
