Morning rumbles: RNZ's flagship show faces shake-up as boss steps down
Morning Report's ratings have faltered since 2020, losing almost 200,000 listeners.
Ahh now I’m not sure - I think I may have the two guys mixed up
I thought it was the latter, but now I’m not all that sure either. Had some interaction on here, always cordially, so was surprised by the sudden departure.
This was the post I was referring to from Duane when he was still on here, from May 2022
I went back through my e-mails and found that Dan took over the page in January 2023 as far as I can see - but then a post in here about a year later from Paddy saying it had been shut down and the “buy me a coffee” page was returning a 404 error:
Just went to the Buy Me a Coffee platform a moment ago and I noticed that The Radio Vault closed its doors and the 404 page was shown.
As far as I am concerned the team from The Radio Vault have done a terrific job in recent years.
That’s what I was asking about - did anyone who made a donation to them find out what happened? Where did all the donations go? Okay, I never donated (apart from audio) but I know that if I had made a monetary contribution I’d be pretty unhappy to see the page I gave money to just disappear with no warning - not to mention all the archived audio disappearing too.
Lovely to hear Tracy Donaldson on the sound fm this morning
In fact @PaddyTePou you indicate above you donated to the last incarnation of The Radio Vault - did you ever receive any notification/warning/anything that the guy was about to shut it down ? If so, I’d be interested to know how he explained why it was happening.
Duane (from memory) would usually just say it was “too stressful” running the site and then the next day it would be closed.

@my_names_mr_burns No, I didn’t.
No, I didn’t.
That’s even worse then. I would have thought that you would be first in line since you contributed! Very disappointing on their part
On another note I tuned in to The Sound breakfast show this morning (for the first time in a long time) and heard Robert Taylor, very good. Georgia? Didn’t she used to be at NZME? And I thought Martin Devlin was set (for life?) over on The Platform? What happened there?

Great to hear she has another job, now back there doing the drive show.
I wonder if this will mean a change to the voiceovers for Coast’s imaging. Robert Taylor got swapped out quick at Gold after he started at The Sound.
I would imagine so
The brekky show got changed 6 month ago

Robert t and tracey gone full circle
Both used to be on the sound then went to gold fm and now both back on the sound

Just goes to show you how often I listen (or don’t ) listen to the breakfast show on The Sound.
Why did he leave The Platform anyway and go back to commercial radio? That’s what I’m unclear on.
Why did he leave The Platform anyway
I wouldn’t be surprised if his show didn’t resonate enough with that audience, it was a sports show sandwiched in with the culture wars and political stuff that is The Platforms bread and butter. Leah Panapa probably drawing in more audience because her show aligns with Sean and Michael’s ones, an echo chamber you might say
Yeah, I remember looking at their YouTube channel last year and the clips from Devlin’s show got a fraction of the views that Plunket’s rants did.
The YouTube channel has about 45k subscribers. That’s interesting in itself because if you look at the individual videos, the ones with Sean Plunket sounding off about politics tend to have a few thousand views each (sometimes a lot more)… whereas excerpts from Martin Devlin’s sport show get several hundred at best. Of course there is also the bot factor…
I read online that Peak FM Ruapehu has been sold by long time owner and announcer Geoff Anderson after 30 years.
According to a recent Facebook Post Jesse Archer from Lake Taupo FM is the new owner and breakfast announcer at Peak FM.
Has anyone tuned in this week to hear any changes, and is there a way to listen to the station online, it used to be on Rova until recently I believe.
I wonder if the station is being voice-tracked from Taupo as it used to be based in Ohakune, then recently Raetihi?

Mini networking then? The post online said that the Raetihi studio would also close. Shared breakfast show out of Taupo?

Good point, I had no idea he was doing a sports show (again, I don’t listen to The Platform). But that would make sense.
Which reminds me, how is “Reality Check” “Radio” (lol) doing these days? Since Paul Brennan had a sulk and left both the NZ Radio FB groups, I hear (literally) nothing about it. Is it still going? Does anyone listen to it? Do they need more donations (another lol)?
re Peak FM - didn’t Iain Stables used to run this? Or was that another central NI station?
another central NI station?
Ski FM, possibly?
