That’s a mistake, Nik Brown is very good and knows the music well. Personally I can’t stand Mark Richardson. A very odd decision to make.
As to Paul Ego leaving after such a short time, it makes me wonder why he took the job in the first place?

Interesting if that’s true, Mark Richardson on breakfast at The Sound round 2. Yet again someone at Mediaworks thinks that a station focused on music, having passionate music announcers and little talk needs a personality driven breakfast show again. Never lasts long though, let’s not forget Gary McCormick on Magic.

I dont mind mark Richardson as a tv cricket commentary analyst but not sure he would work on a music station like the sound which core focus is classic rock…he did this once before a few years ago and didnt really work
Will he be the main host or is there going to be another main anchor with Richardson in a co host role??

Mark Richardson is not going back to The Sound.

But it does sound as if Nik Brown announced on Fri morning that he’s leaving

Here are the possible reasons why Mark Richardson cannot return to The Sound in 2025, although some of which may not be correct at the time of writing:

Current employment: Richardson might be currently employed by another radio station or media outlet, making it impossible for him to return to The Sound.

Retirement or other pursuits: Richardson may have decided to retire from broadcasting or pursue other interests, ruling out a return to The Sound.

Health or personal reasons: Richardson might be dealing with health issues or personal circumstances which prevent him from returning to broadcasting.

Just went to the new Sports Nation website and must say I think the layout is quite odd, it’s covered in sports news (no surprises there, all good) but I struggled to find a roster of shows/hosts. Is there one? It feels like the radio side seems to be sort of hidden whereas sports news is the “star of the show”.
Also is it only listenable on AM frequencies in the four main centres + Hamilton? If so that’s a vastly reduced coverage footprint from what the old SENZ station was - what happened to all the other (former) frequencies?

Yeah it’s a messy website.
They are definitely on more frequencies than that. Weird to highlight sports news on their site when they don’t have a newsroom - only ‘rip and read’ newsreaders.

I’ve been impressed by the social media content - having cameras set up in the commentary box is nice and not something Mediaworks did on MagicTalk or Today FM’s cricket commentary.
