Good to hear a rare bit of honesty with a radio departure, I do wonder if cost cutting also played a part.
I am no radio expert but I thought Mediaworks would have learned their lesson after briefly attempting team breakfast shows on The Sound. Their listeners arenāt tuning in for long talk breaks from the announcers.
Exactly. When youāve trained listeners that youāre a music format across the day, including breakfast itās hard to retrain them.
The sound are trying to sneak john day into breakfast chat with nik brown he pops up to make sports comments but then disappear again
Certainly doesnt add anything
Well according to commentors on the Magic FB page, Lindsay is going to replace Bunting on mornings. So we at least one DJ locked in.
According to the Mediaworks website, the target market for Magic is 45+. I dont know many people born in 1978/79 who would listen to music from the 50ās and 60ās.
Iām in the target market (45+) and I would listen to the 70s and 80s. Maybe the 60s (at a stretch) but music from the 50s doesnāt really interest me. It does to my Mum though.
Maybe the ā45+ā thing needs to be revisited?
I liked bunting shame if he is goingā¦it must be the annual mw restructure timeā¦
Mediaworks has been restructuring ALL year
Yes yes yes they have. Some good talent again possibly on the way out
Listening to Magic now, and they dont appear to have their Sunday night country music show on tonight. Nor did they have Saturday night jukebox on last night either. Interesting. Its a same if they are to chop the country music show, I really enjoyed listening to it.
Does it have much in the way of listenership though? I know quite a few people who listen to Magic, but maybe one that listens to the country show.
Maybe itās also going as part of a huge revamp?
They could play American Top 40 from the 1970s on Sunday night instead, that would fit right into their format - but there is a cost involved there.
Mark leishman hosted that segment ā¦i always thought it was a little out of place for magic.maybe see what 2024 will bring
I always thought the Magic Country show was a holdover/transferred from The Breeze? I seem to recall a Breeze Country show - maybe hosted by Mike Puru - on Sunday nights beforehand. Even then I wouldnāt say it was a massively popular show there, either.
This isnāt to say thereās no audience for country music in NZ, just that itās nowhere near as big as some programmers here think it is.
Its seems to be the only time where we have music from the 1950ās on that channel now, and the only time that we have easy listening stuff from the 60ās and 70ās now. Even if they do play the same songs over and over. Just something a bit different for a change.
It has been automated for the last 12 months or so. Something which I have liked. I never really liked him rabbit on about stuff.
Magic had xmas misic on today most of the music was nice to listen to over lunch
Murray Lindsay himself confirmed this on his last show of the year.
He said he would be moving to 10 t0 3 weekdays in the NY. So even that is a slight re jig of shifts as currently he was starting afternoon/evenings at 2pm.
Its possible they might bring back Gentil in that case for Drive?
Maybe lindsay and bunting are swapping roles??
