Based on the last survey a 5th spot in share nationally, lower in cume but barely 6000 lower than Coast.
I often find myself listening to the rova app to listen to the different station chanels they have…sometimes they can be better than the mainstream offerings [similar to i heart radio but on a smaller scale]
Guessing just cost cutting as they moved him from brekky to mornings to make way for Gary which lasted all of a few months
Interesting, as they would still need to pay someone to do Bunting’s show - but I guess a less well-known name would probably do it for less. Or just automate it and pay the computer nothing?
Maybe he was still on breakfast show $$ till the end of his contract in which case Murray Lindsay probably would do it for less
Most of the shows are pre records these days anyway apart from breakfast

Congratulations phil gifford being recognized in the ny honours list for services to sports journalism and broadcasting he has had a long distinguished career in the media both print and radio…remember the hauraki breakfast show he did with the late kevin black and john hawkesby in auckland

Yep. Been that way for a while. Might not even have DJ’s soon, all replaced by text to speech and AI. Same with copy writers, etc.
And if there are still DJ’s and announcers, they will be working from home, possibly as freelancers, maybe even recording shows for different radio stations.

It’s the same the other way around too, I bet A lot of the time listeners aren’t 100% what station they’re tuned into either.
I would be inclined to agree with this too. While I still listen to the radio I don’t listen nearly as much as I used to. I guess we have a lot more entertainment options available now as opposed to how it was in the 80s and most of the 90s.
Radio used to be the number 1 source to hear new music (for example), now I would say that a lot of people get it from the likes of Youtube - which didn’t exist in 1995.

Fair to say our radio listenening choices are very limited…most of the stations sound pretty much the same…its not uncommon to hear the same song on different stations…there is no variety…just tried and tested formats

Conversely I would argue that today they’re actually less limited - think back to the 80s and the mid-90s; most places had one radio station, maybe two. In the larger centres you had a bit more on offer but no more than half a dozen stations, at best.
Compare this to today: almost everywhere in NZ you can now find stations for almost every genre (bar country) - and I’m not even including any stations that stream online.

Bad move. I really enjoyed those snippets. I realise that it costs that person money to run this, but Not too sure if I really want to pay an ongoing fee for this.

Agreed, I was a solid supporter/follower of the Radio Vault for a long time, back to when Duane was running it, until we had a falling out due to me making the cardinal sin of disagreeing with him, which (I felt) he had a major meltdown over resulting in him blocking me from the page (something I understand he did to a lot of other people as well) - but at least the site was free as he did it out as a hobby rather than for money, as far as I knew while I could still access it.
Eventually he left and it seems the new crowd - while doing a good job, and not prone to childish tantrums - are a bit more profit-driven, which is fine, but it’s not for me, sorry.

Including the online country station that was launched before xmas then the music stations that replaced today fm…i was talking the mainstream stations seem much of the same but some of the streaming stations seem to offer a bit more as i guess they are not part of a big corporation ie mw or nzme our local station in nth Canterbury [compass fm] have a small following here
They were doing more stuff from the late 80’s and 90’s. I very much preffered stuff from the 1970’s.
Not for me either i enjoyed the trips down memory lane listening to old snippets but dont think i need to subscribe for the privilege
