Probably want all the today FM payments out of the way first?

The new magic show on fron today

Sounds great. Good banter. Shame about the music.

So are in studio or separately

REX Live, hosted by Mark McCarron and Dominic George, made its debut on Magic earlier this week and runs from 5-6am on weekdays.

It covers live breaking rural news and expert insights but since REX had moved to Magic since the abrupt closure of Today FM, the music from Magic’s playlist is included in the show.

Both in Auckland this week but not sure if that is ongoing.

A technical update, MediaWorks has updated their RDS RT on most of their stations tonight (in Wellington at least) to include the “Artist - Song”, “Up Next: Artist” and station slogans.

  • Channel X (Since last May/Early June)
  • The Edge
  • The Rock
  • Magic
  • Mai FM (Changed to a region-less message as the previous slogan was specific to the region)
  • More FM (Most dynamic, broadcasting promo messages, “Lana, Adam and Paul wake you up with a laugh from 6am”, “Wellington’s Best Music Mix - 99.7 95.3 More FM” and current/next song)
  • The Sound

Still static:

  • The Breeze (Still “Steve and Shelley then More Music, Less Talk - 94.1 The Breeze”)
  • George FM (Still “George 106.7 - Beats Working”)

Edit:
The Breeze updated 14/8 to this. George FM has also in full-power markets. All low power Mai & George FM stations continue to display their old message as I presume either the transmitters are older (as all other transmitters were updated in 2019); or due to being low power, a dynamic RT would not work very well.

Edit 2 (31/8):
I was wrong about George FM, they are broadcasting their new RDS in Palmerston North (“Beats Working - George FM”, “[Program] with [Hosts]”, and song) despite being LPFM (they do cover 80% of the city pretty well). Probably as they have updated that transmitter, as Wellington still only transmits “George 106.7 - Beats Working”. Mai’s PS has changed to dynamic “Mai[Freq]” and “Mai FM” as well as The Edge being “The Edge” and “Edge[freq]” in select markets (Can confirm Auckland and Manawatu.)

NZME has got song titles (apparently from earlier on in the year) too, but it seems like for whatever reason, Wellington has not adopted this even though Kapiti, Manawatu and Whanganui (and probably most other markets) have. ZM seems to be stuck on “ZM’s Late Show - Play ZM” and “ZM Wellington 90.9 FM” so I assume somethings gone awry for our market.

This probably should go into the RDS forum instead, but that seems to be more Australian Focused

Dom Harvey was on Duncan Garner’s Mediaworks podcast Monday … talking about how he realised after leaving The Edge workmates were not friends, how the phone stopped ringing when he left the station (I wonder why). Lot of promo vids on Facebook. And now, vanished! Like it never existed.

I genuinely wonder how many presenters hes kept in touch with since the revolving doors started when Fletch, Vaughan and Megan left The Edge.

Or did this only occur to him once he was on the outside?

I just can’t believe that there’s anyone at Mediaworks that doesn’t know the real reason DH left the Edge weeks before the review was released .

I’m surprised they let him back into the building.

Wonder how Duncan got it cleared in the first place. Or maybe he didn’t.

Living in ignorant bliss or what! What is he complaining about though, isn’t that typical with a workplace though, once you leave, the reason for interacting closely with these people on a daily basis dies away due to many reasons. I guess Dom has some extra reasons though as to why the ‘workmates’ haven’t bothered to ring him.

Probably used JJ’s swipe card to sneak in, she counts herself as one of his loyal friends.

I sadly question some of the people who go on his podcast…

Dom Harvey…

I still remember this quite well. Whether you like him or not, I always thought Jason Reeves kept The Morning Madhouse crew on the straight and narrow. Okay, he was the fall guy for a lot of their jokes, but I thought Mediaworks handling of this incident was absolutely shocking, and Dominic (and also JJ) were both behind it - yet nothing happened to them. When Jason left the station, Dominic had no real “control” to keep him in line and I heard he went totally overboard with his stunts on the show.

After they announced in late 2004 that Jason wouldn’t be returning, I ceased listening to The Edge, which is depressing as I had been a huge fan for a number of years - but the whole episode just left a very sour taste in my mouth.

They were a great show

They were indeed. I used to listen to them when I lived in Wellington on TV4 out of hours (this was 1997-98) - so much better than the boring More station in Wellington at the time. The Auckland playlist was a LOT better too.
