If it’s going to be a Gen-X targeted Channel Z-ish station, I hope it’s based on the original Wellington Channel Z.

That station had a great blend of late 70s underground (punk, new wave), 80s indie (Smiths, Cure, Stone Roses, Pixies) and all the stuff that was breaking through in the 1990s alternative scene.

Unfortunately it all went downhill when they networked it from Auckland in the late 1990s and became filled with rubbish like Nu-Metal.

Interesting this is going to be on Rova…

If you press the chat button on the station page, it starts writing a text message saying “clue” to the number 3598. My phone plan doesn’t allow me to message these numbers so I can’t see what the clue is.

‘ the answer is in the waves’ is what you get when you text Clue.

Reminds me of Grand Theft Auto V, they also have a radio station called “Channel X”; genre are manly rock.

That’ll be referencing what TheRadioVault discovered then. Thanks for checking that out

I never thought of texting that number as its just the generic rova number. That’s interesting cos that is the answer.
Be interesting to see if they have any more spoilers or mystery clues broadcast before the station launches? We already have a good idea that it’s gonna be 90s/2000s format but there’s still a lot of sub-formats they could air. Would have to be mainstream enough to appeal to a broad audience, but not generic 90s pop to take away from More FM/HSH audiences

Can’t say I had Garner returning to Mediaworks anytime soon on my bingo card!

The question I have is whether this is to avoid a costly redundancy/settlement with him.

MediaWorks press release on Duncan Garner Editor-in-Chief.
DUNCAN GARNER TAKES THE REINS AS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF WITH A BRAND NEW ROVA ORIGINAL PODCAST

From Monday May 8, listeners will be reunited with the formidable news hound Duncan Garner when he returns with a new daily podcast Duncan Garner Editor-in-Chief.

A rova original podcast, recorded daily as live, Duncan Garner Editor-in-Chief will see Duncan take the reins as his own boss for the first time in his impressive 29 year career as a journalist.

With in-depth interviews and regular features such as the ‘Slam Dunc’ and ‘Wanker of the Week’, this new digital offering promises Duncan Garner at his raw, funny, and unapologetic best.

Garner says: 'When someone said Editor-in-Chief, it stuck. The podcast is not just about newsmakers, it’s about what’s going on in our lives and in our communities. I want people to get involved. It’s a place to share, listen, laugh and engage. Nothing is off the table, brutal honesty is what I want, bring it.

“Some of the best conversations and the most gripping stuff is when people open up and share. You never know who else is in the same boat and if we can talk solutions too, then that’s a bonus.”

MediaWorks Interim CEO Wendy Palmer said she’s thrilled to have Duncan in charge of hunting out and telling great stories for his rova show.

“We know people have been missing Duncan, and we’ve worked closely with him to create a platform
which will unleash his decades of talent and personality.

“We want to expand our reach by meeting audiences where they are. Kiwis love podcasts, with thirty
percent of New Zealanders being weekly podcast listeners, outpacing the U.S., Canada, and Australia. And we’ve got some fantastic new content coming on rova in the coming months including this unique offering from Duncan.”

Duncan Garner Editor-in-Chief launches on Monday May 8 and will be available in the rova app, and
wherever else you listen to your podcasts.

Desperate for a job - no one else would hire him, and this is MW trying to repair its reputation. I don’t see MW actually committing to it long term.

I agree - a suite of podcasts they can sell to their music brand advertisers who still want a talk spend. Try and keep some of those dollars from going to ZB.

Apparently Leah and Mark back as well. Well played MW, saving an absolute packet nuking the bland station with terrible ratings while hand picking the better presenters for a much lesser role. What a masterstroke
