New Zealand Radio

Also Joe Cotton’s final show on More FM tonight. Has been co-hosting with Brin Rudkin this evening.

Lots of people moving around it seems.

Another departure! Joe has clocked up a few hours behind the mic at More FM across many years.

Jeezus, so many moves in radio this year.

Hits Drive for Flava Bfast? Because Stace, Mike and Anika sure will resonate young hip-hop listeners lol.

I’m picking Fame for Nickson’s replacement.

Flava plays “old school” hip hop and RnB. Mostly stuff from the Noughties and 90s, I think their average listener would be in their late 20s or early 30s.

It is strange however to see such talent and the wages they’ll be getting, relegated to a three market station

Hm, I dunno. A lot of my mates in their early 20s listen to Flava, as Mai has become somewhat of a top hits station.

Guess it’s about running down contracts if so.
Actually thought Sol E Mio (sp?) were quite good but never likely to last once borders began to reopen.

Randell leaving the Edge as he has a tv opportunity… hosting for an Australia network and had to make a choice as mediaworks wouldn’t give him time off to film

ZM boss Ross Flahive on Fletch, Vaughan and Megan to announce Megan’s departure. Is moving to The Hits, on an extended break so no good bye on the station for her…… Hayley Sproull taking over. Not too much said from Fletch and Vaughan about it all and understandably so.

@medianz comes through again!

NZME Announces New Lineups for The Hits, ZM and Flava

New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) has announced exciting lineup changes for 2022 across entertainment radio brands Flava, The Hits and ZM.

New to Flava in 2022, The Hits Drive trio Stacey Morrison, Mike Puru and Anika Moa will be welcomed as the new hosts of Flava Breakfast, alongside a new day lineup including Storme Hitaua and Azura Lane.

Mike McClung, NZME Chief Content Officer, says the new lineup will build on the fantastic work done by the 2021 team, in a year that was anything but ordinary. “A huge thank you to Sol3 Mio’s Pene Pati, Amitai Pati and Moses Mackay who have done a phenomenal job hosting the Flava Breakfast Show for the past year and a half, and are now off to focus full-time on their music. We wish them a fond farewell.

“Stace, Mike and Anika are looking forward to living and breathing old school hip hop and RnB. Stacey was the original breakfast host on Flava when it launched in 2004, so she has come full circle!”

Laura McGoldrick will take the reins of the Drive Show on The Hits in 2022. An integral part of The Hits, McGoldrick has hosted The 3pm Pick Up Show for the past two years.

“Laura is a powerhouse broadcaster and has fostered a wonderful relationship with listeners through her great sense of humour and candour on the air,” says McClung.

Joining The Hits whanau is Megan Papas who will take over Auckland afternoons and the nationwide 3pm Pick Up Show. Papas has been a much-loved member of the ZM Breakfast show since the launch of Fletch, Vaughan & Megan in 2014, helping the show top the ratings and win multiple radio awards including Best Network Breakfast Show for the past four years.

Emily Hancox, the recently appointed Head of The Hits Network, says Papas will be a fantastic addition to the station. “Megan is an absolute star and we’re excited to have her as part of The Hits family. We know listeners will love getting to know her and we’re looking forward to her joining us from 1 February.”

NZME is thrilled to announce Hayley Sproull will be joining the ZM Breakfast show. The multi-talented comedian, actor and broadcaster will join Fletch and Vaughan from 17 January.

Michael Boggs, NZME CEO says there is no doubt that 2022 will be a strong year with the new lineup. “It is fantastic to head into the new year with such a talented group of people on the air, continuing to deliver growth and audience engagement along with the very best commercial opportunities for our customers.”

It will be interesting to see if this lasts, especially Anika.

Good choice, Laura and Estelle are quite entertaining. Make it a more low key sort of shift. They still need to fix Breakfast though…

Hoping this was an opportunity created for her rather than a consolation prize. Always tricky to determine the real story behind a high profile media exit.

Hayley was a fantastic addition this year, so the show will be in great hands next year and the audience know her already.

I agree, but first instinct is that she was pushed. While she may now be able to sleep in, shes probably away from home and son for longer now during the day.

Also judging by her instagram post and lack of recognition to Fletch and Vaughan, it doesn’t seem like a happy departure

Another poorly handled exit, poor Megan.

Absent without explanation for the final two weeks of the show. No on air farewell other than an announcement on the last show of the year. Despite working on that shift for 7 years and even longer with Fletch and Vaughan as a Duo.

Radio has never been a particularly kind business and these kinds of hurried exits and demotions are nothing new.

I remember when I was learning the desk at a top rating station in the early 1990s, the guy I was panelling for was called into a meeting with management mid shift. He was a well-known personality at the station and been doing drive for a few years but had also co-hosted breakfast prior to that. The manager told him that he was no longer suitable for drive on that station and that he was being replaced as of Monday. Then he was offered the graveyard shift as a consolation. Understandably, he told them where to go. He put zero effort into the rest of his shift, and that was it.

I learned pretty quickly that in the radio industry, when you’re hot, you’re hot. And when you’re not, you’re not. Nothing has changed.

Farewell and Radio Wanaka and Roy 104.2, I doubt they will remain on air under NZME ownership. Not sure what they will be replaced with, a number of key brands are already on air in the town and The Hits has a Queenstown based breakfast show on air already.

No commenting allowed on ZM socials with the associated posts now as well.

With Radio Wanaka now acquired by NZME, does that mean Radio Hauraki is coming to Wanaka? There are four NZME brands in the area, including Newstalk ZB (90.6FM), Coast (94.6FM), The Hits (96.2FM) and ZM (100.2FM).

What’s left for NZME to snap up now! First Gold FM, now Radio Wanaka. The West Coast’s Coast FM, Brian FM…?!
