She’s anti-vaxx, I hear. Which is why she left NZME abruptly.

Fletch Vaughan and Megan would never return to the edge, they don’t even like mentioning the company or station and especially a few of the people that worked there during there time. I can’t imagine any amount of money would make them go back.

Dave White has gone and now, Nathan Muller. Does that mean The Sound will be replaced by Magic after nearly 10 years on air?

:facepunch: @medianz

Must be a press release coming soon…

@medianz @nztv @OnAir @anon36025973 I am so displeased that many of MediaWorks’ familiar voices - such as Alex King (Mai FM), Clint Randell (The Edge), Dave White (The Sound), Nathan Muller (The Sound) and Nickson Clark (Mai FM) - have decided to leave.

But I do just want to wish them a very happy Christmas and all the best for their future endeavours. May the New Year be as wonderful as we all are.

We can only assume that they have decided to leave. It’s not uncommon for contracts to not be renewed around this time of year, for whatever reason. But the radio industry is a constant revolving door and personalities constantly come and go. It’s the nature of the beast.

Thanks, @anon36025973 - I appreciate it. I hope that some people will come and go, and some will stay for years. And there will be newcomers to the radio industry.

It’s always fun to see who they are replaced by. And who knows, some of the departees will more than likely pop up on different brands, perhaps even with the opposition. I will be looking forward to seeing who replaces Dave White and Nathan Muller.

@anon36025973 On The Sound, there is now a shortage of on-air talent and the station has played the greatest music of all time, from the artists that still matter, since it launched in 2012.

From The Beatles to The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac to Queen, The Eagles to David Bowie and U2 - the playlist has given us more of what we wanted: less talk and more of the music of a generation.

When The Sound began it has offered a no hype celebration of timeless rock from the most formative years of our listeners’ lives, in a clutter-free environment. It has been the soundtrack to their lives and uniquely positioned to give us access to a lucrative, attentive audience.

Over the years, a roll call of The Sound’s presenters includes Mark McCarron, Geoff Bryan, Heather Keats, Mark Smith, Tim Homer, The Top Marks (Kennedy & Staufer), Jen Bainbridge, Robert Taylor, Mark Perry, Leah Panapa, Tracey Donaldson, Mike Currie, Nik Brown, Mark Richardson, Nathan Muller, John Sweetman, Kim Blair and Dave White.

Next year, The Sound will celebrate 10 years on air.

Mel Homer a contender surely!

I’m also hearing changes at NZME. Hits Drive moving to Flava breakfast, Megan Papas moving to the Hits replaced by Hayley Sproull on ZM.

And also 25 years (later in the year) if you include its original time as Solid Gold; although that was a slightly different format that’s probably overlaps with Magic these days, it’s probably the incarnation of the station I remember more with my travels in NZ a while ago. Still had pretty positive memories of it, as I did of their competitor in the then-current incarnation of Coast.

Although The Sound’s target playlist is certainly iconic, I just wonder if there’s going to be room for two older-skewing music stations at Mediaworks for too much longer. (Though maybe they’re far enough apart, just like Coast and Gold on the NZME side sound like they are.) I guess we’ll see.

Big changes there as well! Really hope Megan has been moved on under her terms, she had her boy earlier in the year which could be a reason. But she has also been off air for the last two weeks with little explanation, last FVM show of the year tomorrow. I did enjoy Hayley though.

Moving Stace, Mike and Anika to Flava seems like a white flag move for that show. The station only broadcasts to Auckland, Rotorua and Dunedin. I would argue Hauraki breakfast needs to be looked at rather than Flava at, 91,800 cume for Matt and Jerry vs 67,900 cume for Flava.

Maybe an expanded show drive show for Lauara Mcgoldrick?

Definitely room for both, they rate fairly well in a competitive market. And the combo doubles the combined Coast and Gold shares.

If he is going to The Edge then the whole announcement comes across as a bit disingenuous. Says he is taking a break, could be short term could be long term. Not challenged enough in current job, has needs that need to be fulfilled and an opportunity has come up.

But will work for same company, same hours as present, same building and on another younger skewing station

I think his “taking a break … could be short term, could be forever” is not from radio but Mai as he says it again near the end of the clip but adds jokingly : “if you guys would have me back if it doesn’t work out” . But yeah strange way of framing it

Guess she’s off to try and make Jono and Ben sound good… tough gig !

I feel sorry for both Nickson and Megan. It seems like they’re both being moved from successful shows with long futures ahead, to try and save struggling stations.

Sad for the listeners but a good move from NZME with Megan. Fletch and Vaughan won’t miss a beat with Hayley stepping in, and if Megan goes into breakfast. Hopefully she can give Jono and Ben a few lessons.

I don’t know what Mediaworks are thinking, but it seems like they’re all out of ideas with The Edge Breakfast

Got a chuckle out of that. Well done.

This. Nickson is good talent, but not a big personality. Could understand if it was someone younger and more spontaneous like Fame from Mai Home Run… but they’re just going backwards imo
