NEW Zealand motorsport great and 4-time Bathurst 1000 winner Greg Murphy has joined the SENZ family, joining broadcaster Stephen McIvor with an all-new show across the network.

Murphy and McIvor will share the microphone for “Race Control” which begin on Thursday 16 September, live from 7pm-9 pm weekly and will be available via all 28 SENZ frequencies. (Full list of stations is in the attached release)

Race Control will air again on Sunday mornings 9am-10am. Both shows can be heard on the SENZ app.

Every Thursday, Race Control features Murphy and McIvor, a long time star of Sky Sports, with all the news, insights and opinions of the motorsport world.

Greg Murphy said he can’t wait to help bring more attention to Motorsport in New Zealand and around the world.

“We have a disproportionate number of drivers doing amazing things professionally around the world too, which is something we should all be very proud of, so I can’t wait to launch ‘Race Control’ on SENZ and talk all things Motorsport with my mate and Super Broadcaster Stephen McIvor.”

Mclvor said “Motorsport people are like any people who love their sport. Passionate, caring and always wanting the best.

“After working for 8 years on Sky Speed alongside Greg Murphy, I have greater respect for what is needed for success in the world of motorsport and the chance to share and introduce that world to folk on “Race Control on SENZ” has got me pumped.

“Have no fear, Murph and I are going to have fun and want you to be a part of it”.

SEN National Radio Director Sam Thompson said it’s great to expand our content offering into Motorsport, we want to become the go-to destination.

“We couldn’t have a better team to talk motorsport and ‘Race Control’ will deliver. We have the legendary expert in Murph and the passionate motorsport broadcaster in Stephen McIvor.

“With motorsport news, opinion, interviews, and audience interaction, it will be must-listen Thursdays from 7 pm.

“And now at SENZ – its kiwi for sport, and motorsport.”

SENZ will become New Zealand’s new home of sport and racing and aims to be the destination for New Zealand sports fans.

With Dallas in charge, he will be able to pull in some heavy hitters from ZB and the like.

I don’t imagine AM show lasting (on Magic) after this year.

Magic Talk will rebrand - new name, new sound, new lineup.

Dallas might be able to bring over the likes of Jack Tame for Breakfast, which is ZB’s succession plan to Hosking in 10+ years.

Sort out Mediaworks’ news offering (perhaps even consider starting its own newsroom again).

The Mediaworks board will probably listen to Dallas and actually invest in news/talk finally.

ZM is expecting some technical difficulties for a few minutes after 4pm, just the theme tune of the Bree and Clint show.

Are they? Are they doing some maintenance then?

My bet… I think they had some problems bringing the 4pm press conference or something like that.

Oh, sorry, so they’ve had problems already? Just that you said expecting, sorry.

Here’s the full thing unedited:

Great MW have finally hired someone with experience to head news & talk.

Peter Williams gone, no surprises there. But I reckon Graeme Hill to Mornings, Leah back to Nights might have been better. Maybe eventually she’ll get a co-host ( Garner perhaps?)
Not sure what to think of Lloyd Burr for Drive, expected a journo with more… bite (Jehan Casinader, Jack Tame?) but he’s definitely a loss for Discovery – now no obvious replacement for Tova / Newshub political editor when the role comes up again.

Wonder whether MW are after RNZ listeners. Potentially a good move as they’ve lost a lot over the last few surveys. Or will it be Radio Live 2.0 ?

Does all this change signal a move back to FM? I really hope they do.

Just went to Twitter recently and I didn’t realise that my good pal, TV and radio host Wallace Chapman (who presents The Panel on RNZ), was seriously injured. I wanted him to get well as sooner as possible, and wished him the best for a full recovery.

Here’s a photo of me and Wallace as part of my trip to Auckland earlier this year.

SPORTS Entertainment Network is thrilled to announce a double world cup coup, securing World Cup cricket radio rights across Australia and New Zealand for two separate world cups over the next 8 months.

SEN and SENZ today confirmed they’d secured exclusive commercial radio rights from Dubai based Global ICC Audio rights holder Channel 2 Group Corporation, for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, to be played in New Zealand next March and April.

And in further good news for Australian & New Zealand audiences, next month Sports Entertainment network will also broadcast the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from the UAE across Australia and New Zealand. That tournament begins on October 23rd, 2021.

The move complements a huge summer of cricket across two countries for SEN and SENZ.

Right now, sports fans are enjoying listening to the English versus India series from London, which will soon be followed by coverage of New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan starting on September 17th, 2021.

This summer Australian audiences will hear the Ashes coverage of Australia versus England, while the Big Bash coverage will be heard across both countries.

Sports Entertainment Network chief operating officer Jodie Simm said the opportunity to broadcast the women’s world cup was a great honour.

“The upcoming tournament in New Zealand in March and April will be nothing short of spectacular, and a huge honour for New Zealand as the host nation,” Simm said.

“With both New Zealand and Australia, as previous winners, out to dethrone England who won back in 2017 it promises to be a wonderful series to showcase the best women’s cricketers in the world.

“And the Men’s T20, featuring the world test champions New Zealand and an Australian team desperate to play some high level cricket, it will be a fantastic tournament.

“We can’t wait to bring it to audiences across our entire 50+ station network in Australia and New Zealand and on the SEN and SENZ app.”

Mr Ajay Sethi Chairman of Channel 2 Group Corporation quoted ”We are looking forward to and excited to work with the SEN group for upcoming ICC T20 World Cup and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup which are 2 major international tournaments”

Resene have signed on as a major naming rights sponsor for New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan starting on September 17th, 2021 and for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup beginning in October.

As well as shared naming rights of the New Zealand Tour of Australia which begins January 30, 2022 .

So those rights were previously held by NZME/ZB/Radio Sport, I think?

@medianz Yep. Before SENZ came along, Radio Sport (which was owned and operated by NZME) was the only sports radio network in New Zealand and acquired the cricket commentary rights.

Except for Magic Talk, which has the cricket commentary rights too (for NZ matches)

Sold individually for each tournament. But yes Radio Sport had the most recent 50 over cricket world cups.
