TVNZ’s using the same studio for the multi-party debate.
It was used last time when Jacinda and Judith went head-to-head in the first leaders debate.

Were the major two parties invited to this debate?
They were but they both declined.
The networks should take a hard line and force both National and Labour to be a part of these multi party debates as this is MMP not FPP.
To be honest, I kinda prefer it the current way.
While it does promote a hierarchy in terms of the top 2 parties, it allows the smaller parties a shot to get their points of view across. Having the bigger parties in the mix would make it messier and less time for the smaller parties to show what makes them different.
The selection used by TVNZ isn’t the greatest. Hard to argue how TOP (2pc in tonight’s poll) didn’t get a spot but the Maori Party did.
Maori Electorates, probably, where it’s traditionally a two-horse race between Labour & the Maori Party in most seats.
I think the reasoning was TVNZ don’t poll in Maori Electorates & they were in the last parliament.
Also the Maori Party aren’t going for the Party Vote, just looking to unseat Labour MPs in the Maori Electorates.
That’s right. Which makes it weird they were in a debate which was appealing for party vote.
I don’t think that’s necessarily correct. It would’ve given people on the Maori roll insight on Tamihere and what his party is about.
If TOP and the New Conservatives wanted to be included they should’ve polled 3%. That being said, I disagree with Advance NZ being present. Jami Lee Ross was an Independent in the last parliament and their views hardly deserve any airtime.
