Because they don’t rate.
Football Australia announced yesterday that the two-match series between the Matildas and New Zealand will begin at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville on Friday night, April 8. It will be shown live on 10 Bold, 10 Play and P+.
10 being a bit cheeky with the coding of their football coverage from next weekend, the schedule reads:
7:00-7:40 A-League Men (pre game)
7:40-9:30 A-League Men (main part)
9:30-10:00 A-League Men Post Game
No doubt designed to fudge the numbers a little for the main portion of the game.
Or would this be because next weekend is a split broadcast? (From memory, I may be wrong)
Interesting that they are putting a pre-game, game and post-game in the guide. It’s different.
I know that the AFL and NRL have “post-game” usually listed for their primetime offerings.
Sport is coded like this so that the pre-game and post-game can contain betting odds.
Just highlighting this is the first time I’ve seen them do this for A-League coverage, previously it’s just been coded in one block for the entire broadcast.
Melbourne City v Melbourne Victory will be 10’s main broadcast this Saturday night in all states except NSW, which will get Sydney FC v Western United.
UPDATE: speaking of Melbourne Victory, it lost 3-4 to Japan’s Vissel Kobe in extra time in their AFC Champions League play-off in Kobe last night. It meant the teams playing in the group stage in this year’s competition had been confirmed, with Melbourne City in Group G and Sydney FC in Group H.
To reduce the amount of travel, each group will be played on a double round-robin basis in centralised venues. Group G matches will be held in Bangkok and Group H matches will be played in Ho Chi Minh City.
The group matches will be played from April 7 (for teams based in Middle East) and April 15 (for teams based in South East Asia) and they will be streamed live on 10play.
P+ will stream Middlesbrough v Chelsea early Sunday morning and Crystal Palace v Everton late Sunday night. In early Monday morning it will be Southampton v Manchester City and Nottingham Forest v Liverpool.
The UK broadcasters for the quarter-finals are:
BBC - Middlesbrough v Chelsea, Southampton v Manchester City
ITV - Crystal Palace v Everton, Nottingham Forest v Liverpool
10 has also revealed the World Cup qualifier between Saudi Arabia and Australia will be shown live from Jeddah at early Wednesday morning, March 30 (5am AEDT kick-off).
Glad that 10 are showing this on the main channel too.
And Studio 10 will actually have a good lead-in for a change

What’s really robbing fans is that there is not a pub in Australia that you can watch Paramount+ or the A-League anymore. Apparently P+ are holding out for the pubs to pay and they won’t. I’d be giving screening rights to them for free to promote P+.
Absolutely killing the sport.
Yeah exactly. Are they only showing games on FTA?

It comes from the last paragraph of 10’s media release.
