Agree in the sense that the A-League’s ratings started to fall when Fox Sports lost the EPL rights to Optus. As such, Paramount+ getting the EPL rights would help draw eyeballs to the A-League/W-League
Huge deal for 10 and now have a good package of sport throughout the year.
People are right they need a big European deal like EPL. If the UCL and UEL go to Stan, when the EPL expires (next couple of years) they could take that from Optus.
This just shows again, 10 not interested in sharing rights or simulcasts. It needs to be full suite of rights to even make it commercially viable. They need all FTA and streaming rights.
This shows that Foxtel is outnumbered here given 9/Stan and 10/Paramount+ are much better positioned.
Do we think this means 10 are looking for more sport?
Only if it is exclusive and they can stream and monetise it. It’s more like Viacom CBS stumping up the cash for this.
so FTA one match per day deal for 2023 womens world cup finals tournament likely to go to 10, with optus showing all games?
will be interesting to see if sbs try for 2026 mens world cup finals…i dont want to see 2022 be their last ever world cup
Not yet. Deal will be announced next year. Could still go elsewhere, although they are towards the front.
You’ve got to think that Optus is under some pressure now with it looking more likely they wont retain the CL
As an aside, now that NBC are shutting NBCsn, I wonder whether VCBS might go after EPL in the US too
Yeah, I was at the Man U game - I’d have turned up to watch Man U vs Ryde U8s though
They are yes, but are still looking for sports for Peacock. Shutting it down won’t stop them from buying sports, but it will end most of the really niche sports.
If they can’t get more rights direct, ViacomCBS would be smart to enter into a bundling deal - make Optus Sport’s channels available as an addon component of Paramount+.
Would be beneficial to both, to create that cohesive Football service.
Any way to get an approx list of how many games of each comp will be on 10 as opposed to internet only paramount streaming? particularly the 2023 asian cup finals tournament
Also does a certain amount of games have to air on 10 or can they decide to put any number of games on 10 that they choose for all comps in the deal?
Big news for 10 and paramount+. I know that Streaming Sites are the way to go at the moment, so glad that some games will be on 10/ 10 Bold - Including A-League (Saturday night); W-League (Sunday arvo) and FFA Cup Final
Australian Senior (Matildas and Socceroos) teams will all be on 10/10Bold. The FFA Cup Final will also be on 10. The rest will be Paramount+ only.
Not suggesting they wouldn’t
ok thanks…so Asian Cup 2023 finals only socceroos matches on ten, not the qfs, semis and final on 10 if socceroos not playing in those games?
2023…
June 16-July 16…mens asian cup finals in china (10/p+)
July 20-August 20…womens world cup finals in australia and nz (fta tbc/optus)
i will be interested to see if 10/p+ go for euro 2024 finals and 2026 world cup finals, even the english premier league rights for 2022-25
The press release from Football Australia says the rights include:
All non-Australian matches across AFC competitions, including Round 3 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches and AFC Asian Cup matches
So I’ve been doing some researching. Fixtures we have:
FFA Cup
Round of 32 on P+ (3-4 August, 10-11 August)
Round of 16 on P+ (24-25 August, 7-8 September)
Quarter Finals on P+ (21-22 September)
Semi Finals on P+ (15-17 October)
Final on Channel 10 and P+ (Saturday 30 October)
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Asian Qualifiers - Round Three
I assume all Socceroos matches will be on Channel 10 and P+
Matchday 1 (2 September)
Matchday 2 (7 September)
Matchday 3 (7 October)
Matchday 4 (12 October)
Matchday 5 (11 November)
Matchday 6 (16 November)
Matchday 7 (27 January)
Matchday 8 (1 February)
Matchday 9 (24 March)
Matchday 10 (29 March)

The SMH reported in their story about the Ten deal:
If true, SBS may have already broadcast their last soccer World Cup.
