is The Weekly Kick-Off that is not a ST branded show still airing on 10 or 10Drama? Or is it only on 10.com.au
Surely Gen must be green with envy that they have out work into soccer in AU and then every World Cup it just hands the audience over to SBS.
How long are rights tied up for with SBS? Surely ten would be keen to nab them.
10 have the 2027 rights.
Paramount+ will be airing the matches similar to 7/Optus Sport split in 2023
I do hope that 10 will show some Women’s World Cup matches not involving the Matildas.
Sorry I was talking about the men’s World Cup
That means the same thing bro. It’s the same company, not a 7/Optus sublicensing split.
I would assume they will. They’d be silly not to show at least one game every day.
This is 10, don’t underestimate the silly.
Expecting them to have at least one game on a multichannel and Dog House repeats on main channel ![]()
The next women’s World Cup is in Brazil. They’ll air the Matilda’s games on the main channel. Similar time slots to the current World Cup in terms of US time zones. So they may get some day time slots here in Aus and the rest will be early mornings.
10 will again rue the day they didn’t bid for the men’s version. Yes one off events don’t sustain viewership but does build credibility. They have none of that at all these days.
I hope 10 will get a huge ratings boost in 12 months time with the Women’s World Cup. The last Women’s World Cup was a missed opportunity for 10/P+ which drew the highest-rated football match for an Australian national team on Channel 7 back in August 2023
Unless there’s a change of plans, BigVic is right. When Paramount’s Football Australia rights extension was announced, it was noted that the 10/Paramount+ match split for the 2027 WWC would be identical to the number of FTA games Seven showed during the 2027 WWC:
- FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ (15 matches on Network 10, all matches on Paramount+).
Promos should be airing this week to mark one year to go
There should be interest here in Australia
I think we need to be careful assuming that just because the likes of 10/P+ are part of one company, that this ultimately results in a better outcome than a shared arrangement (like 7/Optus in the example you’ve used)
The reality is that while they have common ownership, they still compete for eyeballs. The subscription arm is often the one that is underwriting the bulk of these sports deals. At some point, they’ll make decisions that significantly impact the FTA element.
