Network Ten and Paramount+ Football coverage

Of course they’ll be going for the NRL, knowing full well the downside is their own demise.

Although you could say they’ll be showing the sport - if they get it - to an even more dwindled audience, with the recent regional story.

Featuring the so-called “World Club Champions” (in a dodgy tournament run by corrupt arsehats) and a team that still has a chance of being relegated. It’s about as prestigious as winning the meat tray at a pub.

I woinder why… APL and FA are what happens when you feed a Gremlin metho after midnight.

Ten’s (Paramount’s) heads explode if someone mentions spending money on anythin other than Warner Bros Discovery.

Both, but I can’t seem them getting NRL.

No financial terms mentioned aside from slight increased rights fee. Will be interesting to see what the clubs get as an annual fee given in dropped over the course of the most recent rights deal.

With 10 losing the two games of NBL and 1 game of A league, there’s even less sports content on over summer than before. Ur really is dire.

Does that mean all :soccer_ball: rights that 10 & P+ will end at the same time?

They still have national teams’ rights through 2028. But then again, let’s be honest, almost every match is locked up behind a paywall.

It really is a sad state of affairs. There used to be an era when they got so much US sports rights they had a dedicated channel to showcase all of it.

And here we are, one A-League game a week in summer 2026.

It’s simple. It doesn’t rate.

I am assuming that the 7.30pm Saturday night match is the one match that will survive (on 10Drama)? With Football Tonight still being the pre-match show?

That game randomly popped up in the ratings in some demos, but not rating that well overall. I never saw the afternoon match pop up anywhere in the ratings.

This is from the APL press release. How is it broader FTA exposure if there’s one less game per week on FTA? The words are selective here. Surely it doesn’t mean that because at times one or two of these fans might be on the main channel. How ridiculous.

Is this the worst Television Broadcast Deal in Australian Sporting History?

Not even the worst broadcast deal in football history.

The opinion pieces conflates the rights of the national teams with the domestic completion. They’re two separate rights deals.

The free to air issue is valid. They probably should’ve negotiated at daytime game to air on the main channel to lift exposure.

They complain about the women’s game only getting 10 free to air games per season but fail to mention the whole women’s competition is free via 10 streaming.

10 really can’t win with its position. It is low rating therefore doesn’t attract the major sports but they need a major sport to lift viewers. If the A league sat alongside a major sport and the network can cross promote then there would be some sort of uplift. Notwithstanding 10 can’t promote anything these days whe they have 2-3 shows that rate above 500k viewers.

First appearance of the season?

Well spotted.

Could be perhaps his first appearance. I remember asking about him a while ago, as he was “missing from action”.

His contract probably ended and he’s been quietly left the network. He wasn’t doing much post studio 10 being axed.
