Oh for crying out loud 10, your Friday nights are a dead spot and you’re airing the national team on A MULTICHANNEL?!

The ‘very smart’ people at the 10 programming department clearly know what they’re doing here. Everyone in the country will ‘prefer’ house shows to a live football game.

Oh goodie, I can’t wait for my LIOLI Australia repeat instead of watching my home country play said nobody ever

Beverley McGarvey has.

Surely that is a gee up? Oh wait, this is 10 we are talking about. lol.

Why can’t it air on the main channel of on Friday night - even just the East Coast? Especially when it is dead space (of repeats of Deal or No Deal, Love It Or List It, and HYBPA)?

It might even boost up the last few minutes of 10 News+

I’m guessing the reason why Ten are showing the game on 10 Bold / Drama, is that the opposition is not a tier 1 European or South American side, and therefore general interest (outside of those who are Football fans) will not be as high as say a FIFA World Cup home qualifier.

It’s Australia vs New Zealand. I think people will tune in just for that, even if it’s soccer.

Probably not as many as a competitive game though.

9 had EPL on main channel on a Saturday at 9:30pm but 10 isn’t putting the Australian national team on their main channel at 7:30pm on a Friday. If it was Sunday-Wednesday I would understand because they have shows to prioritise.

It’s a Friday, 7 & 9 have sports on main channel & 10 is not showing anything important. So it SHOULD be main channel

I don’t understand why you say it SHOULD be on main channel. Surely anyone who is interested and wants to watch knows to watch on 10 Drama (stupid name IMO). If this is going to get ratings then 10 are only hurting themselves but it is not going to outrate AFL or NRL.

This was not 9 thinking of and programming for their viewers, it was simply to get more eyes toward Stan Sport and the EPL. So you could say a 2 hour advert!

It’s the national team playing on a Friday & 10 has no important shows that they would be removing. Also tv shows or sports on a secondary channel rates less than it would on main channel.

I said ‘should’ because it should be on 10, it makes no sense for 10 to have it on Drama instead

Yes but as you say, 9 could have put the ‘2 hour advert’ on GEM and people interested would watch it but it has more an impact on the main channel and more viewers. Last night reached 1.13 million & averaged 326k from 9:30 to 11:30pm.

10 is premiering season 2 of The Brighter Side on the same night at 8.30pm.

…so 10 has shifted the game for a glorified infomercial?
I’d love to know whatever management is smoking up there

Ironic that CommBank are Socceroos naming rights sponsor now.

EPL would rate much higher than a non-competitive Socceroos match, especially against the All Whites. No disrespect to NZ but they aren’t a tier 1 football nation and it’s a friendly.

Another factor to consider- there’s no AFL this Friday Night. I could understand shunting it over to 10 Drama if it was up against both the AFL and the NRL but with the AFL being on their pre-finals week off it’s a big opportunity missed to pick up audiences that would normally watch the AFL but also have at least a passing interest in the Socceroos.

Edit: wrong weekend, my mistake!

I don’t think it matters, it’s still on FTA and in HD, so if people want to watch it, they can.

I think it will make a difference, it may not seem over logical to us with an interest in media but ‘main channels’ always will attract a higher audience reach for the same program compared to a ‘multichannel’. Most people channel surfing will go through the main channels for all networks but are less likely to pay significant attention to the myriad of multichannels that exist these days.

Particularly for something like the Socceroos where you will have a mix of demographics (some with a strong interest in football specifically seeking it out who will mostly find it on 10 drama vs those who might have a casual interest and looking for something to watch).

Doesn’t help either that 10 drama is a channel name that doesn’t exactly scream “sports are on this channel”.

The match is 5th Sept not 29th Aug so it would be up against an Elimination Final (most likely) of the AFL.
