Network 10 2019

Ten Boss is the one that doesn’t sit right with me. If it is indeed targeted at males, what does that say about sexual stereotypes in the #metoo era? Further, what does the current CBS, embroiled in its own power-male scandals, think?

No point… There’s already heaps of free porn on the internet. So I’m told… Xtube, Redtube, PornHub

Mind you it would allow for some interesting advertising opportunities

I’ll need to check out those sites for closer examination :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Aside from possibly being one of the industry’s worst kept secrets, “10 Boss” and “10 Peach” sound like stupid names for the rebadged multichannels IMO.

I don’t mind 10Boss personally but Peach is a bit meh to me.
I quite liked ONE though, so it’s a shame that’ll be moved aside.

The use of “Boss” in media has an interesting heritage in the US.
In the 60s there was a style of radio called Boss. It seems there was also a different format using the same name in the UK

Check out this wiki article for some background

I don’t think it got much traction here.

It was obviously male skewed so the choice of name seems to be an example of CBS influence.

Crying sexism over channel names…geez get over it! Its a name of a fruit! People looking way toooo much into things! No wonder why the world gets so instantly offended over such stupid shit!

I’m thinking boss is probably supposed to mean cool in this context.

How does the Undercover Boss feel about all of this attention?

I wouldn’t be taking that Hun article as confirmation and I’m surprised Blackbox considers it “confirmation”, unless he knows something we don’t, considering it is information that has been in the public domain for weeks and nobody from Ten has commented.

Sorry, but that doesn’t cut it in 2018. I just don’t get how you can get away with calling something ‘Boss’ AND targeting males, and not suggest there is a connection between power and the male gender. Australians don’t even use ‘boss’ as a slang word in reference to men, which is something 7Mate can mostly get away with. So why the connection between channel name and demographic, if true?

I like 10 Boss personally. Classy. Strong.

When I go into any middle eastern shop in Australia the person behind the counter usually says something like ‘how can I help you boss?’. In that context it is definitely NOT sexist, and they are all Australians. And as I commented above, I think Ten will be using boss as in cool.

If true it seems to indicate CBS influence given;

BOSS adjective NORTH AMERICAN
excellent; outstanding.

I’d assume a name based on American language (if that’s the case) has first been well and truly researched and put in front of focus groups.

In the American context I don’t know that it’s necessarily sexist. I’m assuming it’s definitely male skewed though, but that happens all the time.

Having said that if there is any ambiguity it seems stupid in this day and age to choose a name that could be seen as sexist. Apart from anything else it’s just unneccasy.

Of course we’re still not 100% sure.

OK I’ve read the room and you all win.

I like them. I mean - what else are you call those stupid channels?

So I will assume you are a male?
What do they say to women ?

Don’t know.

Perhaps something a bit less gender-specific?

It makes sense because they will be skewing them towards either gender.
Otherwise they’d might as well keep them as their current names.
