Neighbours

Am not fussed about Bonnie Anderson leaving… I personally think that her storylines have run its course of late.

As for Finn “returning”… Well, i am just over this storyline. If they wanted Susan to visualise Finn, and they forgot to film it a year ago (or have any footage of “what happend…”), then tough luck! lol. Filming new scenes for the sake of adding a scene here and there is silly.

Am really enjoying Melanie’s return. She’s not over doing the laugh and has had some great scenes with (mostly) Toadie … “the only thing I’ve been filing today is my nails” or when she offered him tips and hints to get further in the game she’s been playing on work time (when Toadie was suggesting why is she playing games during work )

Fay’s death was so sad, a very beautiful episode.

Amy’s return was brilliant. Would love to see her back or Jacinta in something else.

Now that Shane and Dipi are leaving hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy it more. I was disgusted how Dipi wasn’t held to account enough for her affair or willingness to dump her entire family to chase after Pierce and how Amy was sacrificed to get them back together.

According to TV Week, Shareena Clanton has joined Neighbours for a guest role. Shareena Clanton played Doreen Anderson in Wentworth, which was the same character name used in Prisoner when the role was played by Colette Mann.

Neighbours have done something very clever and funny. Shareena Clanton will be playing a character who is called Sheila Canning in Neighbours, in a case of mistaken identity with Colette Mann’s Sheila Canning.

I absolutely love the idea of this storyline and I’m sure we’ll read a lot more about this in the coming weeks. I recall a month or so ago seeing Sheila get a package delivery and just put it on the dresser. At the time I didn’t understand the relevance but now I see they were heading towards this storyline.

I have so much respect for Colette Mann. She is such a good sport and isn’t afraid to make a fool of herself on camera, in particular the amount of times she’s worn ludicrous outfits to fit various storylines.

there’s a fan in the UK who owns a couple of Neighbours houses already. He’ll probably snap this one up too

It’s weird that they would call it Toadie’s old house when he only lived there briefly in his first year but has lived elsewhere for over 20 years. They should have called it Mrs Mangel’s old house.

Neighbours did not air last night (Friday). According to Facebook page, they said from this year onwards, they will not be airing an episode on Good Friday.

Not on air twice a year is still pretty damn good (the other day being Christmas Day).

Shareena Clanton, who is joining the show as another “Sheila Canning”, has spoken out on her Instagram about her time on the show, saying that she’s endured multiple racist traumas and is navigating ongoing counselling after her time on the show.

Very disappointing to read that. I can’t imagine any workplace where that type of conduct is acceptable.

I do have a question, just for my own education, but realise it may not get answered here. But what is the requirement to have a cultural elder on site for “cultural safety and debriefing”. What does that mean? I’ve never heard of such a thing before.

Agree.

I too haven’t heard of it before. Would love some further information about it to understand.

I wonder if it is a requirement for all productions to have this in place?

It definitely isn’t if it’s just for an actor of indigenous culture being on set. Screen Australia does for example though insist on roles like that if indigenous content is linked to the storyline.

She has valid concerns but that one is stretching it a bit. I’ve heard bad things about the culture at that place from coworkers before, people either come and go or stay there way too long and it’s got a weird vibe compared to other sets.

That’s really interesting.

I wonder if it could be the case that Wentworth were able to due to due to the scale of the production and the funding behind it?
Maybe it something she should have discussed with the production of Neighbours prior to taking the role?

In regards to the culture. This is my guess, but I feel we still have a long way to go with the younger generation and that it could be the case here.

Words described above that have been used, fit in that “mate” culture where it’s used daily (although incredibly inappropriate). Shows like this can be in its own little bubble and they need change.

Truly horrible accusations, but seeing that on screen Neighbours has actively encouraged diversity and inclusion for many, many years I can’t imagine that such a horrible culture would exist behind the scenes.
