It seems to me you are mad. Tell uncle Mullet all about it .
I kinda disagree with your over the top reaction , you can’t debt that Neighbours has launched people’s careers and getting a gig on the show (like with Home and Away) does open the door. Look at Margot Robbie she’s had a good career in Hollywood so far. Then there are others too like Kylie Minogue and Jason Donavan and fam of usingly Jesse Spencer.
It is an Australian institution for actors. Spank me and tickle my Elmo no one is saying that it is equivalent to a tafe qualification . I don’t know why that remark would offend you???
I think you need to calm down.
I’m suggesting an investment not for it to be produced the the Vic Government. Lord.
Also 150k on broadcast overnight and a lot more on top of that on catch-up. It’s 2021 we don’t all watch tv live these days
You’re coming on here making claims that no one has watched it since the 80’s which is not true. I don’t know if you’re gaslighting this convo or what, but I think we should be championing the industry that barely still exists rather than calling for people to lose jobs. Because I’m not aware of any other series filming in Melbourne that these people can get jobs on that is secure and through COVID the arts has been left in the gutter by all governments which is a whole other topic.
Whether it’s your show or not, it still should be supported. It’s a couple of hundred jobs on the line here and potentially more into the future who will be impacted based off this decision,
Wouldn’t want you as a Prime Minister , seems like you have something against government funded education and training as a whole. The liberal Party welcomes you.
Basically you want to see people lose their jobs ? Wow. And what kind of statement is that to make? A little empathy to those who may be out of a job wouldn’t milk you.
The problem is, it won’t be replaced. With no drama quotas it won’t happen.
30 years hey? Ever heard of Margot Robbie? Delta Goodrem?
Again baseless comments that aren’t true. Maybe you don’t live in Victoria so maybe that’s why there also isn’t the support from you about the show, that’s fine.
But you’re bashing something you clearly don’t know anything about by making the statements that you have.
Well if they’ve already established their career to get as far as scoring a role on the show, they probably think they can get a job anywhere else after Neighbours ends. It doesn’t always work out that way for all the actors though.
Some friends of your not giving a shit about the show long term doesn’t mean a majority of those on the show agree with those people and have been on the show long term. Some of the actors have turned to behind the scenes on the show like producers and directors.
And no one has watched the show seriously since Kylie Minogue left the show in the 1980’s? That’s laughable!
Lol as if that is true . I’m thinking in terms of jobs mate too and people who will lose their livelihood.
Why do you come in this thread attack people’s comments and seem surprised people are defending the show ? You are the one that doesn’t get the significance.
Is it really? Not the industry I’m in then, so no idea what one you’re on about. Would love to know who they are that don’t give a shit, because all of the cast I’ve seen in photos look visibly upset.
It’s not about just the actors. Script writers being given their first go, camera operators in a studio environment, lighting, audio, editors, colourists, gaffers, runners, producers.
I was a fan of the show in the 2003-2008 period. I wouldn’t call myself a “fan” now I haven’t watched an episode in probably 10 years - I have only seen bits. But I worry about the industry and this is the second last major drama production that remains which we will never see the investment or like of again. That’s why I am supporting in it continuing it’s important to the industry.
His statement is invalidated because a general conception view on actors . Which is why I don’t believe his statement about that.
Some people do have a love and hate affair with neighbours though. Fan or anti fan or actor or actress. I’m sure some actors have criticized their time on the show for some reason and they have every right to given their experience with certain associations with cast members . It seems like a personal attack coming across on this forum.
What the actual fuck? What exactly has this got to do with me ? Geez making it personal much.
You have no evidence of your so called friends who work in the show as actors. I never believe what I read on forums from anyone unless there is a source to back it up. And you are not qualified to make claims about someone’s passion for working on the show. Makes me wonder if your just posting on here to provoke a reaction?
I have loved certain years of Neighbours but not all seasons
Do you see me being a dick about the possibility of the show being potentially axed if a UK broadcaster can not be found? Of course not because people work on shows like Neighbours and Home and away to provide a decent storyline for people who watch and like it or not Neighbours has launched some of the greatest careers of many people who have come through.
Your post reeks of arrogance and just trying to stir up trouble in my opinion. You have this undertone of anger because people are not agreeing with your take.
Anyway back to people who actually want to discuss the show…
Watched it religiously when I was little. My sister had the boardgame, I had the “racing” game on Commodore 64 (those were the days lol). I also still have the Neighbours trading cards (yes they did that just like the footy cards, and special movie trading cards like Batman/Batman Returns and Ghostbusters II from the late 80’s/early 90’s). I still live maybe 10ish minutes away from the filming location ahh memories!!
Haven’t watched a full episode in almost 20 years, yet despite my lampooning I’d be sad to see it go :-/.
It does seem high considering £125k is only just under the reported £130k spend on each episode of EastEnders, which run 7-8 minutes longer and clearly have much more money spent on them.
Neighbours is already clearly the budget soap - a small cast (which actually works to it’s advantage) and rarely leaving the sets and regular locations. It’s probably better to end it than compromise it even further with more budget cuts.
Doesn’t quite work like that though - the overheads means halving production doesn’t half the costs.
