I propose @Radiohead starts protesting in the studio to reverse the decision.

Surely you’re tagging along as well @ElCapitanCranky, need someone to distract the guards so he can sneak in

He’s very distracting, you got that bit right!

Fuck you WIN

I’m surprised Newcastle had 10 journalists to start with, that’s huge - definitely some scope for reduction, but yeah, they are pretty savage cuts.

Look, it’s sad that it has come to this, but given WINs operating model it makes sense.
These newsrooms will still be well resourced compared to the likes of VIC where each newsroom only has a single journalist and camo.

Is Risa still there?

Oh I thought Adam and Montanna were not included in the ten (as the two full time sports roles, which I thought were over and above those numbers).

camera operators reduced from seven to three.

The sports presenter team, currently comprising two full-time roles, would be eliminated entirely and replaced with a single Journalist / Sport position.

A full-time Hair & Makeup role would drop to part-time.

Gone altogether are the MEX Operator roles, the part-time Archivist, and the Executive Assistant to the news director.

Across the broader WIN network, the plan would also remove around 10 journalist positions and nine camera operator roles across New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

Coffs Harbour, Lismore, and Central Coast would each lose one journalist. Tamworth drops from three journalists to two. Camera operators in Coffs Harbour would shrink from three to one.

Port Macquarie and Taree are the only bureaus to emerge with their numbers intact.

Feels like they’re expecting to pad half hour bulletins with statewide content in typical WIN fashion.

and yet Lancaster still trots out the line -

“The changes to our weeknight bulletins are designed to deliver more local content, more local stories and a stronger connection to the communities we serve across Northern New South Wales,”

cough :ox: :poop: cough

Also this whopper from the Mediaweek article -

WIN Network cited shifting viewing habits

Bit rich when WIN are the one’s shifting them ??

I think he’s referring to the general shift to streaming, something that is having a huge impact on free to air ad revenue industry wide.

True, however WIN just put themselves into a death spiral by the way they operate and the shoddy product they produce, instead of actually attempting to maintain an audience

Their 1990’s era style of news presentation says everything about how WIN is run.

Call me old, but I’m more than fine with 90s style presentation if it’s matched to 90s-level reporting and resourcing. Heck they could do 80s style presentation with 90s-level reporting. Call it WIN Retro News, and I’d tune in.

I’d be happy to see the return of the spinning globe as shown in the 1990s.
