NBN News

It’s not really much more news anyway. Once you account for the loss of local weekend break outs for news/sport/weather, you might end up with 5 mins more ‘local’ news over the week.

Another example from the Illawarra this week - check your smoke alarm batteries. A worthy reminder? Yes. Does it count as local news? No.

Nice mock!

Though WIN won’t keep dotty… I imagine an NBN News logo will be redone in the ‘dotless’ WIN style/font.

And one inaccruacy in that article… NBN (Channel 3) News was shown at 6.20pm up until 1972.. but still 54 years is pretty good going.

I am not convinced on the control room being built. It was stated building the control room would begin shortly - today is 4 June and the start date is 27 June of the half hour bulletin- whatever the branding will be for the local news.

Re-branding to WIN News is inevitable and most likely, no later than January. It will be either:

  1. When the local news bulletins at 5:30pm begins
  2. September-October - around the time of the NRL finals
  3. In January after a 2 week holiday break for the local news

The regional 7 and 10 O&O stations are required to provide 30 mins of daily local content in each sub-market Mon-Fri. But news content counts for double, making it a total of 15 mins.

I think the problem is they’re allowed to fill the updated quotas in noodle update form, rather than bulletin form.

Forgive my ignorance but

Why was there an expectation the bulletin would be produced from Brisbane? WIN doesn’t have any presence there?

Under 9 it was, but now will be allegedly produced in Newcastle.

No idea, ask Mediaweek.
I was more highlighting the bit that said

The network said it was also exploring opportunities to expand news content to digital platforms.

Which is interesting as WIN has very little digital presence currently

Yes, WIN should put them up from 6pm on YouTube, especially if people say 5.30 is too early.

Perhaps Nine are not letting them, thinking it’s competing with 9Now, being the overlords they are.

And 9 would want to split, if not take all of, the advertising revenue which I doubt WIN is keen on.

And similarly WIN wouldn’t want them on 9Now for the same reason.

WIN News got an unprecedented lift in the ratings last night.

Not sure if there was some sort of attempt to add in NBN. Unfortunately the coding does not seem to have been done correctly e.g. the average audience was higher than the reach so numbers don’t make sense. Will have to monitor. Was up approx 100k on Tuesday’s rating.

Yes, definitely something amiss.. and Monday night was before the changes were announced.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re referring to creating separate Facebook pages for each market. Surprisingly, it’s something NBN has never had.

And don’t forget that WIN no longer produce Local News during the Xmas/New Year holiday period. They are too tight to have a local news service for those 2 weeks. The same will happen in NBN areas now too.

Possibly not.. I guess that will depend on what the 5.30pm ratings will look like over the next 6 months or so.

It is the WIN way. We will see. They are aligning what they already do in SNSW. And the 5.30 bulletin whatever it is called, I dare say it wlll be WIN News in NBN areas will get shunted to 9Go! during Oz Open Tennis, same as in other WIN areas now.

I have to agree. I don’t think WIN will realign their thinking and fold NBN into the WIN network under WIN branding and think that the incumbents dominance will continue. I personally think that WIN probably thinks they could screen the local news at midday and get the same ratings at that time thsn at 5:30

Geez I hope not. That woukd mean they are changing the logo and brand of NBN too. That’s a lot of change

aren’t win owned stations all branded on air as “9” anyway in promos IDs and on screen gfx? They are by all accounts channel nine and the local win brand turns up on news and random 5 second IDs?

I’d so. Not sure their aversion to the dots. They are everywhere on their own air

The NBN logo only ever appeared during the 6pm news/news updates and the ‘Goodnight Big Dog’ thing.

For the other 23 hours of the day, everything else is all Nine branded (as with WIN).
