NBN News

Still needs shareholder approval too

I’m not sure they’re consistently hitting those numbers in some markets (Tamworth in particular) - there is a lot of out-of-area filler that creeps into the weekend bulletins (and from memory, they are worth less content points)

Who is going to tell them? If WIN purchases NBN they will call the shots, all they have to do legally, is meet the licensing conditions that apply to the two O&O stations in the market, both of which currently broadcast less local content then WINs local news model.

The amount of local content on average in Newcastle has been 7 mins news. 4:30 mins sport. 3 mins weather.

That’s a given.

Like ACMA cares. If the commercials wanted them to do something to favour them, they’d do it.

Well aware of that. I just hope WIN has some sense not to touch the model, and possibly improve. But I think we both know it ain’t gonna happen.

Seven News Newcastle anyone?

Sadly it won’t happen. Prime tried, people wouldn’t switch over. Seven pre-SCM could’ve tried, but didn’t, and Seven now won’t, even though they have a good base in the market leading radio stations.

Newcastle basically punished itself through blind loyalty.

I dont think neither WIN nor Nine will make announcements until post 21 May 2026 as to what might happen.

Sadly I think Newcastle will become another Wollongong and Canberra style for having access to local news. 1 service from 1 provider

Thought it looked a bit odd for NBN News to have TWO sports presenters at the women’s Origin match. Surely only needed one?

Brad Fittler also present for the Origin preview.

Also no local sports window tonight.

The empty chair in the closer was interesting!

How so if they’re using NBN mic socks.
Unless it aired nationally?

Normally all regions get the first segment of sport live, then the second segment starts live, but then splits into the local windows. There wasn’t any local windows tonight though; both segments were live to all regions.

Maybe they want to have a bit of live tv fun and do something outside use of the box before WIN rains on the parade. Lets be real, the best they’ll be doing soon is a fake live cross at 3pm from outside an empty stadium.

Agree, that thought did cross my mind when I saw the 2 presenters both on sport. You never see that anywhere else.

Coffs Harbour weather was shown in the Northern Rivers last night.

Reminds me of when Gavin said he had accidentally loaded the wrong weather graphics for the Newcastle weather report (as Tamworth temps / forecasts were on screen) and he had to ad lib for the rest of the report with very generalised comments for the remaining few minutes. Ended up repeating himself a fair bit.

Is Newcastle weather live?

You’d assume it’s would have been re-recorded if it was.

Not amymore.

I think the example I gave was from when it used to be live (in the Mosbri Crescent days).

A bit of a blooper in Newcastle tonight - a Stan Sport exclusive on the reopening of a bridge.

Later fixed.

Infrastructure opening is an extreme sport, good to see Stan give it the coverage it deserves
