NBN News

That is, if you didn’t look at the AI generated(?) images of someone at the computer, and think they’re referring to the internet NBN and not the TV station NBN.

He has filled in a number of times since joining and is quite good. They seemed to have settled on Adam Murray Sun-Thurs and Montana Clare Fri-Sat, with Mahoney and Tyson Cottrill the main fill-ins.

Heard WIN’s Stella Lauri is visiting Newcastle’s newsroom today.

Perception is weekends will cease and News will be half an hour and match the rest of the network once take over is complete.

as a matter of interest, how much local news is part of the weekend bulletins? and do they do the local windows on weekends or just a single program?

And people will still watch.

Fuck WIN and fuck Nine. Newcastle deserves much better.

Weekends is about 4 mins of local news, 2-3 mins of local sport, and local weather windows at 2-3 mins each for the 5 markets (Newcastle, Central Coast, Tamworth/North West, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers).

Though markets outside of Newcastle tend to get more shared reports so true local news to each of those markets is probably a bit less than that.

Public holidays are similar.

Newcastle has done well to have it for this long. I think the day was coming when something like this would happen in an era when TV revenues continue to fall.

This should be the minmum standards for regional news and content. Across all areas of Australia.

Metro news, especially Sydney news was not, is not, and will never be acceptable on its own without an socially, culturally acceptable and legally endorceable local news service. But will be get that from 7, 9 and 10 and the ALP, Coalition or PHON? No.

My point and hatred of Nine and WIN stands. They have to prove me wrong.

We effectively already get this through those ‘noodle’ updates (60 mins per week) or other from all three networks.

But yes it’s the watchability/quality of them that leaves a bit to be desired.

Should be 60 minutes a weekday and 60 minutes over the weekend 52 weeks a year. They’ve had more than their fair share of government protectionism over the years, they can continue and made to improve their local content.

A bit? More like a metric tonne to be desired.

Not to mention the suitability. Some stories in the metro bulletins were not, are not and never will be relevant to regional audiences. No one in Aberdeen gives a shit about some gronk in Auburn running their car into someone’s town house. I know NBN ran those stories from time to time, but that’s down to resourcing that Nine put in (or didn’t). Doesn’t excuse them from doing it.

Thanks, will be interesting to see when the news changes will happen.

Given handover date appears to be 30 June/1 July, if it will happen on this date or will Nine allow the current format to be retained as a transitional measure for a few weeks/months? … time will tell.

So 10 mins of a 40 minute bulletin or 25%

What % of Adelaide would be local for example?

Better than what the ABC provides and it is a public service.

ABC is an absolute joke.

Near zero commitment to state or local news.

National content from local sets.

Like the commercial sector, the ABC has been run by idiots in recent years, except it’s on our dime.

I could see the ABC being forced to do regional news in the coming years due to “commercial failure” - but they won’t do a good job.

This is why WIN needs to be told “you’re not touching the news content one bit”. Yes, it’s not perfect, but it’s all Newcastle has, the largest market in Northern NSW. They don’t have a Seven News providing rudimentry competition. This is a joke - and a bad one at that.

NBN News hasn’t had the best track record in recent years in terms of coverage - just ask Jets fans.

But times that by 4 (for each sub market), and you’d have about 30 minutes local content in total being produced each Sat/Sun.

So a lot more than what ADL/PER would put out?

I’d say close to half would be locally produced content on a good night? (Maybe I am being generous) They also spread it out, it’s not clumped into a local block.
