NBN News

Why aren’t they just showing today’s news? Is there a reason they’re showing news from 2008?

Facebook are real pains when it comes to this. Some of it is some reasonable protection against impersonation scams - but because you can’t actually talk to real people in Facebook support, name changes can be just rejected with no ability to appeal.

Maybe Nine are a big enough business to actually get past that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if even that scale isn’t enough.

Final lead-up to 6pm promo shortly before NBN News was taken off-air at the last minute due to technical difficulties.

This explains why

This may be blindingly obvious, but am I correct in concluding that the NBN bulletin was sacrificed so the second control room at North Sydney could produce a Queensland bulletin?

NBN is controlled from Brisbane all year round - not from Sydney.

He’s saying because Brisbane is down they couldn’t control Bris or NBN so he’s suggesting Sydney is controlling Bris tonight therefore leaving no one being able to control NBN.

Does Melbourne have two control rooms too? Or is Sydney the only one?

If so, Melbourne could have done either QTQ or NBN instead.

IIRC Melbourne might still have the spare control room from when they did the Regional Victorian Bulletins.

Whether there is a crew to staff it at the last minute on a Saturday night is another thing though.

Services have been restored, and NBN News is back on-air tonight.

Seen some of the NBN News local news windows the last few nights whilst on the Gold Coast.

There looks to be as much, sometimes more, Mid North Coast news, than Northern Rivers news in the windows.

Makes me wonder if the two separate windows have been combined now as one?

The other thing that i thought was odd is that there still looks to be a Gold Coast weather window. That seemed a bit pointless to me, why bother with one if you’re not going to bother with local news.

Maybe its a sign of things to come. Perhaps if NBN News might be rebranded Nine News and NBN Gold Coast might take the Nine Gold Coast feed

In all likelihood the NBN News name is here to stay. They’ve had multiple transitional periods to make the change and the name has persisted.

But it would make sense to abandon a dedicated NBN Gold Coast opt out and just rebroadcast the Nine Brisbane and Gold Coast feed. Allow NBN to refocus those resources on the rest of their broadcast area.

This is quite bizarre…

In Coffs Harbour tonight, here they aired two Gold Coast reports in the local window. Yet I didn’t see one at all in the 4 times I checked when on the Gold Coast!

Only one Mid North Coast report was aired.

Slow news day here it seems.

To me, it’s not so much about it being a slow news day on the Mid North Coast.

More about why are NBN News showing Gold Coast news down here when they don’t air any on the Gold Coast.

If it was slow here, I would have expected to see Northern Rivers, North West or Newcastle news, not Gold Coast.

Also, the 7 News Coast headlines had a lot of local stuff NBN News didn’t cover.

And that’s why 7NEWS is winning at 6pm in Coffs Harbour, because they provide local news in a 30-minute format unlike NBN News which specifically just airs what I’d like to call statewide news for Northern NSW. Also not forgetting that the Coffs bulletin is broadcast LIVE.

If NBN News are going to keep showing e.g: Gold Coast news in Coffs, then maybe Nine needs to consider converting NBN News bulletins (in areas of Northern NSW that also have a local 7NEWS bulletin) to a statewide bulletin and discontinue the local NBN News bulletin for the Gold Coast, which already has a purely local 5:30pm bulletin on Nine’s QTQ opt-out.

Long(ish) closer today with images of the Pope.

Jane announced the news just before the first break, and then came back after the break with the full reports.
