NBN News (2015-Feb 2025)

What would the audience outside of NNSW think “NBN” means.

National Broadband Network?!

It’s almost like Nine and 9NBN are fighting in house for there name.

Should just be:
9 Sydney
9NBN Newcastle
9WIN Wollongong

I think there is an element of truth in that.

As off air there barely any promotion of the Nine brand, eg. at Knights games, all the promotion is for “NBN News”, no Nine signage anywhere.

The last remnant of NBN as a whole. It is a shame they couldn’t implement NBN better into there network. (Besides there internet )

Maybe they decided to change it back given as of July 1st he will no longer be presenting weather on any Nine bulletins :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Doesn’t matter as they are both Nine properties. People can always Google NBN and his name if they are unsure what it is.

It would be nice to see some consistency though.

Does get around

Why does this matter? NBN staff are employed by Nine. They aren’t a regional affiliate.

Besides that, both roles are factually correct. I’m pretty sure the control room staff have bigger things to worry about than Gavin’s title.

It’s the umbrella that’s the problem. He grabbed an NBN one.

He’s just a presenter not a meteorologist?

It’s to the best of my understanding that Gavin Morris is an actual meteorologist - at the very least I remember him being labelled as one during a news report a few years back.

He was on the Weather Channel before joining NBN.

Yep.

It should have the 9 dots, not just NBN, like when it’s a Nine presenter they use the Nine logo.

Memories… I remember doing some work at NBN News when talk started about doing it’s own “Who’s Who of News” promo that was doing great business for TCN.

And this is what was made - simply outstanding for a regional product.

I just stumbled across it tonight and it brought back the memories.

Nat Jeffery as weather presenter, Paul Gregg with sports, Bathie and Melinda Smith plus Jodi McKay. Big names back then. Jodi probably wishes she was still there some days lol.

And of course, Ray Dineen!
Probably NBN News most iconic personality ever.
And John Church, though I thought he was very wooden.
Mike Rabbitt, another big name, but at least he had some personality.

I remember Paul Gregg doing sports reports on Seven News Sydney for a while. Don’t think we’ve heard much since his 2018 departure from Fox Sports News though.

Haha!

Before leaving TV news for politics, Jodi McKay probably had a similar status at NBN News to the one Jane Goldsmith is in now?

Going by all I’ve seen/heard about their work, you’d have to say Ray Dinneen and Mike Rabbitt were to NBN News what Hendo & Kenny respectively were for Nine’s Sydney news bulletin.

John Church was probably the Jim Waley of NBN News? Except for the fact that John was never the main weeknight presenter of NBN News.

Yes, I agree with your sentiments there.

On Jodi, I don’t think I ever saw her smile when she presented the news.
She left me a bit cold, but she was a competent newsreader otherwise.

Ray was nice. 8 foot tall and loved his AFL.

Mike Rabbitt loved a long lunch and had plenty as NBN Promotions Manager.

Melinda Smith was generous with her time and knowledge.

Bathie was a gem.

And then there was Jodi.
