NBC News

Please anybody but Hallie Jackson.

Tom Llamas would be a woeful choice.

Seems like everyone’s pretty divided on who should take over. There’s fans of Llamas and Jackson and then there are the non-fans of both.

Based on seniority at least, I’m surprised Jose Diaz-Balart hasn’t been mentioned as a potential frontrunner, given he’s the Saturday edition host and also has a fairly high profile on NBC.

Both seem pretty beige choices IMO

He’d be a surprising choice - he previously anchored the Nightly News equivalent on Telemundo for over a decade until NBC moved him on a couple of years ago. He’s also in his mid-60s, they’ll want somebody who has the potential to be in the chair long-term.

I wonder if NBC might consider following CBS and trying a double header? In the absence of an obvious, knock-out candidate it might be a good option.

Peter Alexander is the other name that comes to mind. He has the profile and the credentials.

Agreed I was just going to say he’s in his late 60s. He’s too old for the role now, they need someone there for longevity.

I’ll be EXTREMELY surprised if it is anyone other than Tom Llamas. NBC seem to have been grooming him as Holt’s successor for a long time. He’s already lead anchor on NBC News Now.

Yep, and he’s the go to fill in (from what I’ve seen) for NBC Nightly News these days - basically he’s in the same position that Brain Williams was in before he took over from Tom Brokaw (main fill in, hosting a nightly show on an NBC news channel, etc)

Maybe Tom and Hallie together. Co anchors. They were grrray co anchoring on NBC Now during election season.

Interesting idea. Though I don’t think they’ll go down that road, not when CBS’ double head experiment has gone down so badly. I reckon it’ll be Tom with Hallie filling in.

He’s pretty entrenched in the Miami operation. Can’t see him relocating to NYC.

Again, pretty entrenched in Washington and the White House. I don’t see him giving that up just yet.

Unlikely, it would take out their Sunday anchor and two News Now shows in one hit.

Personally I think they’re both great, I only say Tom brcause he’s already in New York, he’s regularly covered for Lester and it does seem like they’ve been grooming him ever since he moved to NBC. I think his sticking point is he’ll want a side project as well (like Lester has with Dateline).

Rachel Maddow addressed this on her show today… outspoken about how management are handling this and crews behind the scenes

Don’t think this quite applies to Peter Alexander. He’s younger and has been around NBC for 20 years or so covering politics and The White House. The WH correspondent gig is a great one for a journalist but there’s very few roles more distinguished than Anchor and Managing Editor of the NBC Nightly News.

I’ve rarely seen Peter filling in so he may not be a massive contender but it’s not likely that he’d turn it down if given the chance.

Wild to see the MSNBC hosts with on air backlash. Do they have no respect for their management’s rights to make programming decisions?

And consolidating daytime hours into two hour blocks is also responsible management in this declining landscape. Management is just trying to make the organisation viable going forward.

Maddow has an oversized influence on the channel, having basically led the improvement of the channels ratings since she joined, and took over Olbermann’s lead after he left.

doesn’t he still host Saturday Today in New York too? Kinda like Lester before he took the NN realm full time

Saturday Today is from D.C.

It’s from Studio 1A since last year

Regardless, people move for jobs. Not sure why people on this page find that such a foreign concept. If they wanted Peter for NN he’d move for it. Or they’d host from DC.

Exactly. NBC Nightly News is one of the biggest gigs in TV news. Maybe Today Show close runner up. You’d move mountains to host a network news broadcast. They are just iconic roles that every up and coming presenter would dream of owning.
