Yep, confirmed on Lester’s Instagram.
So that explains the desk extension.
Have they ditched the open windows now?
Does this mean their existing studio previously used is no longer ? I actually didn’t mind it.
So The Today Show and Nightly News are now sharing the same studio?
The studio adjacent to Nightly News belonging to MSNBC is being renovated currently so this may be temporary while they repurpose space.
Edit: NBC confirmed that this is a permanent move for Nightly News.
You can still see some of the windows open here: 'NBC Nightly News' move to Studio 1A supercut Sept. 13, 2021 - YouTube

Used as an ad-break at points during the broadcast. 30 second ad, bottom ticker flips between headlines coming up every 5 seconds.
That is one classy looking set. Damn.
So good. Why can’t our networks do anything even remotely resembling that quality?
Australia doesn’t really have flagship National news in primetime going out to 2 million plus viewers to make the investment make sense?
Does any other (major tv market) country not have national news?
All our news is local or “state” going out to 175,000 (SA) to 500,000(VIC) viewers at best with at least 5 different “state” editions
Exactly what Seven and Nine now do here.
I mean the windows that we see in the background behind the desk for Today. Is that the LED screen these days to give the illusion?
Those are real windows behind the desk. That is the same corner that the desk has been situated since they moved in in 1994. They do use a slim vertical screen that gives a blur illusion however. Can be seen behind Lester in this photo.
Ah ok. So the Today Desk area is just not seen in the News new layout.
The desk in front of the large screen of the Nightly News set is the same desk from Today. I’m guessing it’s portable and can be moved across the studio.
Yep it’s the same desk. I just mean the actual set part that Today use for “home base” is just not used for the News now. Must be where production have cameras etc setup.
It highlights the value of well-designed sets in that you can have two shows (Today and Nightly News) use the same area but they both look and feel different.
The set looks very nice. Simple but sophisticated and classy.
How much ‘Breaking News’ can you have in a 30 minute bulletin? According to NBC you can have every second story as ‘breaking news’.
This is what Martin Place could’ve been. Too bad Seven never took the opportunity to innovate their visuals whilst they’re there.
They should probably consider taking the LED peacock feathers from the “old” set and arrange them much like the LED Today sunrise logo and put that in 1A for Nightly (move the Today logo to Today’s homebase).
