Yes, 1476 was getting a lot of nighttime interference from 4ZR Roma, so they asked for a change of frequency, but they also asked for a change of transmitter site, to one that would get them a bulk load more coverage & potential listeners.
They were granted the change of frequency & were allowed to move transmitter sites, but not to where they wanted, so they didn’t bother with the change & just stopped broadcasting.
…And as a result, we can still enjoy Radio Tarana Auckland loud and clear on our coastline. NHK-2 from Japan has also been logged on 1386. It’s the only clear channel in Australia apart from 909. 1368 will join the club if/when 2GN converts to FM.
It is a wonder that the ACMA haven’t reallocated the licence. You’d think Vision would be a willing taker…not that I want more ‘God Squad’ programming on the air
@Tejas57 from what site? The Italian site at West Capalaba (Chandler) doesn’t provide good coverage.
Also, this means the Italians are off air in Brisbane again.
Except that SEN will use 1620 on the Gold Coast (remember the months long debacle of a pilot tone 36kHz either side of the channel reaching Brisbane) and @Aaron’s at Darling Heights/Toowoomba as well as another allocation of it at Caloundra.
These were all once held by one licensee, having been established by the Gold Coast based Australian Dance Radio boys.
I don’t know the specifics. I am on visions mailing list as i normally listen via my amazon echo and the lastest letter arrived yesterday with an insert advising of the frequency change from 1520
Yes & 1620kHz 2Moro Sydney propagates well into Brisbane at night too.
Nightime listening might well be a bit messy in SE qld during the darkness hours on 1620kHz in months ahead…
Currently on AM 1053, the former 4EB allocation which then converted to FM and became a HPON with a 30km licensed radius.
First Rete Italia from a stick at the Abruzzo Club on Fursden Rd Carina on the Bulimba Creek floodplain, a km or two upstream of its current site, the former 4BK masts owned by BA and also used by RPH on the BK allocation.
Then went Indian and then Vision.
At night, that radius is reduced considerably by sky wave from 2CA.
If you can buy a receiver above 1602, the first, most prevalent bunch of radios drops off at 1620. A few at 1629 and then the ones going the full way to 1710.
My i30 now does up to 1710 which I’m happy about. There was plenty of skywave on the X-band at 0930 yesterday; Sydney stations such as 1683 booming in central Canberra.
It was hard to tell, because of this skywave, whether there are any native X-band stations in Canberra.
I can report that there are no active X-band transmitters in Canberra. Managed to do a scan around noon today. Still had 1683 Sydney in weakly via residual skywave.
I’m enjoying Noise FM’s all Australian format which features plenty of lost tracks. But they need to fix the sweepers: you don’t play John Farnham’s ‘Two Strong Hearts’ after a ‘fresh new stuff’ sting.
