THIS SUNDAY AT 5.30PM ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW

Channel 9’s My Way, featuring Amanda-Lyn Pearson
Travel to the heart of Outback Queensland across two special episodes with My Way. This week’s adventure features ancient landscapes, whip-cracking comedy, a celestial journey through the cosmos, and the best cold beer in the bush, Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
With just a single troop carrier, Alan Smith launched his outback tour business, driven by a passion to share Longreach’s stories. On an early trip he met Sue, fell in love, and they transformed the small venture into Outback Aussie Tours. Now, with a team of expert Savannah Guides, they offer diverse experiences from sunset cruises to heritage rail adventures. Their mission is to share the profound stories of the land and welcome every guest with genuine outback warmth.
In the small town of Winton, performer Amanda-Lyn Pearson has brought her energy to the red-dirt country with The Crack Up Sisters, a high-octane comedy troupe blending bush humour, bold larrikin spirit and spectacular whip-cracking. Grounding her success in the beautiful outback town of Winton, Amanda transformed an unfinished house into The Crack Up Sisters Corner, a vibrant arts hub built from salvaged local materials. Beyond the stage, she teaches circus skills to locals, creating opportunity, connection and a strong community spirit.
Schoolmates Tom and Grant made a “young and dumb” handshake decision in a bar to buy the Stonehenge Hotel, and immediately injected new life into the historic pub, 150km from Longreach. Beyond serving beers, the pub is the heart of this small town, functioning as the post office, general store and community meeting place. Tom and Grant juggle their day jobs with pouring beer and spinning yarns every night, ensuring this vital hub helps to keep remote Stonehenge alive.
And we meet Canadian-born space enthusiast Alex MacDonald, who has found his cosmic calling in Charleville after moving there with his Aussie wife. CAMELS, A CLASSIC PUB, ARTESIAN SPRINGS AND DINOSAURS: WHAT AN OUTBACK ADVENTURE!
THIS SUNDAY AT 5.30PM ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW
Channel 9’s My Way, featuring Charlotte Plains Artesian Baths
In another Outback special episode, My Way journeys deeper into sunburnt country where communities gather for camel races, a ridgy-didge Aussie pub, and artesian baths under the open skies, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Plus, we come across one of Australia’s most extraordinary dinosaur discoveries.
In the tiny town of Boulia way out west, we meet Shelley Lorenson and the powerhouse group of women behind the famous Boulia Camel Races. Juggling work, family and Outback life, these local mums unite neighbours, friends and visitors for the biggest event on the town’s calendar. The camel races are the galloping heart of this hardy community, celebrating the vibrant spirit that makes Boulia and its beloved event so utterly special.
Heading south to Birdsville we meet Ben Fullagar, who found an unexpected home managing the historic Birdsville Hotel while on an Outback journey in search of purpose in life. A true symbol of enduring Aussie spirit, the award-winning landmark pub has stood for more than 130 years. Under Ben’s watch it remains central to life in the region, especially during major events like the annual Big Red Bash, welcoming travellers from far and wide to lap up its unique atmosphere and colourful tales of the Outback.
Those seeking a slower pace can soak in the geothermal luxury of the artesian baths at Charlotte Plains near Cunnamulla, an oasis along the Wellness Way Bathing Trail. Once a family sheep property, Rob Russell and his family switched to tourism when the wool industry declined in an effort to save it. The discovery of a naturally heated artesian water basin transformed the struggling property, and today Rob works alongside his mother, welcoming visitors to unwind in their therapeutic mineral baths under the vast Outback skies.
After discovering a dinosaur bone on the family cattle property, Robyn Mackenzie founded the Eromanga Natural History Museum near Quilpie. Driven by fierce local pride, Robyn spearheaded the push to keep the other remnants of these prehistoric giants in the region where they were found. The museum built through community spirit now houses some of the country’s largest dinosaur fossils, a remarkable achievement proving that even the smallest Outback town can make a big mark in prehistoric conservation.
Journey to Thargomindah, the last outpost before the Simpson Desert, where its pioneering past meets pure adventure. Thargo, as it is known by the locals, made global history as the first town in Australia to use artesian water pressure to generate hydroelectricity for street lighting. Today, the focus is high-octane adventure. Off-road enthusiasts flock here for multi-day dirt bike expeditions across the ‘Three Corners’ and Channel Country. Yet, Thargo reserves a quiet beauty for those who seek it, transforming its rugged red earth into a delicate carpet of wildflowers between July and September, and offering peaceful sunsets by the Bulloo River.

DIVE INTO THE GOLD COAST’S THRIVING ARTS SCENE

Channel 9’s My Way, featuring Blues on Broadbeach
This week My Way visits the Gold Coast, where breathtaking beaches and an idyllic skyline give way to a thriving arts and cultural scene, Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Twenty-four years ago, Natasha Edwards twinned her connection to the ocean with a love of public art to create the Swell Sculpture Festival. Now Queensland’s largest free outdoor public art exhibition, the festival gives artists a space to create, be inspired, and share their work. Year after year Natasha transforms the coastline into an expansive open-air gallery, fostering community and a deep connection between people, art and places.
Uncle John Graham is a Kombumerri Traditional Custodian of the Gold Coast, a saltwater man of the Yugambeh language group, whose links to country date back 20,000 years. On board the Jellurgal Cruise with Culture, Uncle John welcomes guests to an open yarning circle at sea. Through cultural interpretation and personal recollections, including childhood memories of a much smaller Surfers Paradise, he reveals a side of the Gold Coast rarely seen on postcards: a place of deep family memory and enduring connection.
At the three-hatted Palette Restaurant, Dayan Hartill-Law blends art and fine dining to create special memories for his patrons. Tucked into the heart of the Gold Coast’s home of contemporary arts, Dayan draws inspiration from each exhibition that cycles through the art gallery, crafting menus that reflect the themes, colours and styles of the pieces on show. Dining with Dayan is a unique experience to savour the changing tastes of art.
We also meet Mark “Duck” Duckworth, who spent his youth in bands and digging through record shops. Today he is the director of Blues on Broadbeach, one of Australia’s biggest free music festivals. Duck built the festival to give local musos a shot at sharing the stage with international headliners. Always hands-on, he’s still scouring record stores and late-night gigs to unearth the next deserving artist. And after 25 years, the festival continues to give them a chance to dream big without having to leave the Gold Coast.
Tune in to see how these “ideas people” full of energy and passion are shaping the Gold Coast’s artistic identity, on My Way this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
