Tears and fears of elimination for Danielle and Marko

Table clash leads to walk out

Tonight on MKR on Seven and 7plus, Danielle and Marko’s Ultimate Instant Restaurant ended in heartbreak, with the couple scoring just 62 out of 100, landing at the bottom of the leaderboard and at risk of elimination.

The loved-up couple from Perth entered the kitchen confident to showcase a melting pot of their Asian and Serbian heritage.

The menu was ambitious and creative: Asian Scotch Fillet Taco with Slaw and Cevapi and Ajvar on Pita for entrée, mains of Slow-Roasted Lamb Shoulder with Honey-Roasted Carrots and Tzatziki and Tamarind and Chilli Lime Snapper with Cajun sauce and Sweet Potato Mash.

For dessert, they served Coconut and Lime Panna Cotta with Cookie Crumble and Hong Kong Egg Tart.

At the table, tensions erupted once again over scoring as Mark probed Maria. Maria, visibly frustrated, snapped: “Is it a competition about us matching the judges’ scores? Because if it is, let me leave now.”

As Mark continued to interject, Maria said: “Right now, I am getting angry and frustrated. I’ve been trying to have a civil conversation with Lol and Lil, and Mark keeps jumping in.”

Overwhelmed, Maria walked out, declaring: “I’ve had enough, I’m not going back there.” Bailey followed, offering support: “They are not worth the tears.”

The pair eventually returned to the table, but the atmosphere remained tense.

When the entrées arrived, reactions were mixed. Colin said the Taco’s beef was “cooked and seasoned well” but questioned its Asian identity, scoring a six: “I was expecting more of the herbs. Good start but ramp it up more.”

Manu scored his entrée a seven, praising the flavours, but found the sausage in the Serbian dish a bit dry.

The mains fared slightly better, but the kitchen stress was getting to Danielle and Marko. “The Ultimate Instant Restaurant is so much harder than I thought it would be,” Danielle admitted.

Colin praised the “beautifully cooked” lamb, noting everything worked together, but the dish needed to step up a level. Manu was impressed by the perfectly cooked fish, but their watery sweet potato mash let them down.

Dessert went downhill. The sesame brittle failed, leaving the Hong Kong Egg Tart plain. Embarrassed, Danielle admitted: “I know it’s not an elevated dish for Ultimate Instant Restaurant.”

The tart scored a three from Manu, who noted: “The flavours were beautiful, but the tart base was undercooked. There was nothing else to talk about. That was not enough, we expect more from everyone at this stage of the competition.”

Colin enjoyed the panna cotta more, scoring a seven, but it was not enough to save the sweethearts from the bottom of the leaderboard.

Wiping away tears, Danielle said: “We’re super disappointed in ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Logan underdogs Lol and Lil were safe from elimination, securing their place in the semi-finals.

From strategy to semi-finals

Maria and Bailey fight chaos and criticism to continue in MKR

Tonight MKR on Seven and 7plus brought high drama to Adelaide as boss friends Maria and Bailey faced a challenging cook filled with high expectations but ultimately earned a total score of 64 out of 100, securing their place in the semi-finals.

Determined to silence their critics and ensure their food could rise above the strategic scoring drama, the duo served an ambitious menu.

Bailey admitted: “The whole table has been turning on us recently since they found out we strategically scored.”

“We have a target on our back,” added Maria.

For entrée, they served Octopus with Fava and Spicy Salsa Verde, as well as Feta Gnocchi with Prawn Bisque, Pepper Cream, and Ouzo Gel, which received mixed reactions from the judges. Colin scored his entrée a seven and praised the octopus as “cooked beautifully”, although he wanted “a little more char” and less of the overpowering fava puree.

Manu was disappointed with the gnocchi, calling it “too dense and heavy”, but he appreciated the salty feta, scoring a six.

The mains – Barramundi with Potato Scales, Mediterranean Vegetables and Lemon Velouté, and Scotch Fillet with Red Wine Jus and Potato Terrine – were impacted by chaos in the kitchen.

Mark’s unexpected intrusion, saying he wanted to help them by delivering the steak order, rattled the team, with Bailey fuming: “He’s here to distract us.” The steaks triggered a smoke alarm and Maria admitted: “We know our mains are not perfect, but we faced a lot of chaos tonight.”

Both mains received a six from the judges. Colin found his scotch fillet slightly overcooked and said the red wine jus “still tasted of alcohol”, while Manu noted the fish was “nicely cooked” but the potato scales “could have been done a lot better”.

Dessert was a high-stakes moment for Maria, who owns a cookie business. They served a warm Pistachio Cookie with Praline and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, and Pavlova with Earl Grey Ganache, Raspberry and Pink Peppercorn Coulis.

Colin enjoyed the cookie’s flavour and caramelised pistachios but said “I wanted a soft gooey ooziness. It was a lot of hard cookie.” He scored the dish a six. Manu praised the pavlova’s components individually, alongside the “fantastic” ganache, but felt they didn’t quite go together, scoring a seven.

The guest teams awarded Bailey and Maria 26 out of 40, with Bailey expressing surprise at Mark and Tan’s score of seven.

Bailey shared: “Mark cannot be trusted. He is playing a strategic game to butter us up, so we score them well for their Ultimate Instant Restaurant.”

MKR semi-finalists locked and loaded

Danielle and Marko clinch the last spot as Mark and Tan’s dessert disaster spells elimination

Tonight on Seven and 7plus, the final spot in the MKR semi-finals was decided after a dramatic Ultimate Instant Restaurant saw competitive mates Mark and Tan eliminated from the competition.

With tensions simmering and expectations high, Mark and Tan’s ambitious Thai fusion dishes couldn’t overcome missteps, including two dessert disasters.

Mark and Tan fell short with a total score of 56 out of 100 making Danielle and Marko, the loved-up couple from Western Australia, the final team to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Joining them in the top four are NSW dads Justin and Will, Queensland besties Lol and Lil, and boss friends from South Australia, Maria and Bailey, who earlier in the week survived their own high-pressure cook and remain determined to rise above their strategic scoring admission that has dominated the table talk.

Mark and Tan entered their final cook with bold intentions: a Thai-inspired menu with creative twists and a high-energy vibe. Their entrées of Pork and Prawn Dumplings with Thai Red Curry Sauce and Tuna Tartare with Fried Seaweed Crisps impressed some guests and judges, with Colin and Manu both awarding eights for the starters.

However, the momentum faltered during the mains and fell apart for dessert.

The Pad See Ew with Grilled Steak and the Pan-Seared Duck with Chilli Orange Sauce drew criticism for lack of cohesion and execution. Both judges scored their main a six as Colin noted the Pad See Ew felt like “two separate dishes”, while Manu found the duck dish lacking in balance and flavour.

Both desserts proved their undoing, with undercooked Boozy Bitter Orange Steamed Puddings and an overbaked Thai Milk Tea Tart failing to deliver the wow factor Mark and Tan needed to stay in the competition.

Tan admitted: “It’s heartbreaking to hear we messed up and we’ve just got to pay the price.” Mark added: “We didn’t deliver tonight, but it’s been an awesome experience, so we’ll walk out with our heads held high.”

Thrilled to make the semi-finals, Danielle said: “I’m so proud of us, a little bit in shock to be honest.”

Now, the race to the MKR 2025 Grand Final is officially here.

Match ups for the semi finals

On Sunday, top-ranked team Justin and Will will take on Danielle and Marko in the first semi-final, battling for a place in the MKR grand final.

On Monday, Lol and Lil go head-to-head with Maria and Bailey, competing for the remaining spot in the finale.

From this article about Mark and Tan’s exit

That’s a shame. I think these 2 have been the most consistently good teams. I think who ever wins this will most likely beat the winner of the other semi final.

MKR’s final four face off

Who will make the Grand Final?

The unmissable MKR semi-finals start this Sunday at 7.00pm on Seven and 7plus.

It all comes down to this, as MKR’s top four – NSW dads Justin and Will, Queensland besties Lol and Lil, South Australia’s high achievers Maria and Bailey, and loved-up couple from Western Australia, Danielle and Marko – leave nothing behind in their bid for a Grand Final spot.

Underestimated from day one, underdogs Lol and Lil have made Logan proud.

Lil declared: “We didn’t come here to come fourth or third, we came here to be in the Grand Final.”

“This is do or die,” added Lol.

Footy dads Justin and Will have been frontrunners since topping the leaderboard at their very first Instant Restaurant leaderboard, but will the pressure of the semi-finals prove their undoing?

Justin said: “The time away from our family has been the hardest thing about MKR, but it’s also been the greatest motivation. We want to do them all proud.”

Danielle and Marko have tasted both ends of the competition – from the top and the bottom of the leaderboard.

Danielle said: “We’ve come so far already. We want to go all the way.”

Never shying away from their competitive nature, Maria and Bailey have had their eyes on the prize from day one. Maria said: “This is our last chance, we can’t lose now.”

First MKR Grand Final spot secured

Justin and Will advance to Grand Final after heart-stopping dessert finish

Tonight on Seven and 7plus, best mates Justin and Will clinched the first spot in the MKR Grand Final, delivering a high-risk, high-reward cook that came down to the final seconds of plating their ambitious chocolate soufflé dessert.

Facing off against Western Australia’s loved-up couple Danielle and Marko, the semi-final was a pressure cooker of emotion, strategy and bold flavours. With just two knockout courses to impress the judges, both teams had two hours for mains and one hour for dessert.

Justin and Will doubled down with the riskiest dish of the competition – a daring Sri Lankan Tripe Curry with Carrot Sambal and Paratha alongside a technically challenging dessert.

Manu called it “a very ballsy dish”. Colin added: “At this stage of the competition. I love that they have taken a risk on tripe.”

Danielle and Marko leaned into their strengths with an Asian-inspired main course of Miso Glazed Salmon with Soba Noodles and a Smashed Cucumber Salad.

While their fellow competitors tasted each dish, semi-final results are solely based on the judges’ critique.

Both teams were praised for the creativity and flavour of their mains, although execution missteps were noted. Danielle and Marko’s salmon lacked caramelisation, while Justin and Will’s curry was rich but could have used a touch more sourness to balance the dish.

Colin said: “It was a beautiful curry, but I have had a better curry from you before.”

After mains, Manu and Colin announced Justin and Will were narrowly in the lead. It all came down to dessert.

Danielle and Marko served a Pandan Meringue with Lemon Curd and Raspberry Sorbet. Manu praised the flavours although acknowledging “a few errors along the way”.

Justin and Will went all in with a Chocolate Soufflé with Chocolate Ice Cream and Caramel Whisky Sauce, a dish that had them racing against the clock, nearly missing the plating window.

With two minutes left, their souffles were still in the oven. Will said: “This is the most stressed I have ever been, it’s coming down to the wire.”

As the seconds ticked by, Manu asked: “Are you plating anything?”

Manu called soufflé “one of the hardest things to present, it was light, rich, slightly gooey in the middle”.

Colin noted the sauce was “a little too strong, but when you add it to the ice cream and the bitterness of the chocolate, it was perfect”.

The judges praised Justin and Will’s courage and sacrifice, acknowledging the emotional toll of time spent away from their families.

Colin said: “You went hard. It paid off and you’re not going home.”

“Big risk, big reward,” an emotional Justin said. “That time away has been the hardest part, but it’s also been our greatest motivation. We just want to make our families proud.”

Danielle and Marko hung up their aprons and said goodbye to their MKR dream.

“We couldn’t have been up against better competition. We would have loved to get the win, but we went out with a really good cook,” Danielle said. “I’m so proud of us and how far we’ve come.”

Manu added: “You brought a lot of passion to your dishes. You are funny, warm, and optimistic at all times.”

Tomorrow on MKR: The last spot in the Grand Final is up for grabs, and one team’s MKR dream will end when Logan besties Lol and Lil go head-to-head with boss friends Maria and Bailey.

I notice that for the semi finals, all the teams sat at the same table with Colin and Manu, and ate the same dishes. However only the judges decided which teams would make the grand final.

Disappointing result tonight.

More reactions from Danielle and Marko

It will be Justin and Will vs Maria and Bailey in the MKR season 15 grand final this Sunday, after the Adelaide duo eliminated Lol and Lil in the semi final last night.

Lol and Lil are still working in pest control administration but dream of opening their own food van one day.

They also revealed despite the drama and tension at the table, they remain close friends with all the contestants, who have a WhatsApp group and plans for a reunion.

EDIT: according to the promo, there would be no guest judge for the grand final this year, it would be just Manu and Colin doing the scoring.
