My Kitchen Rules

Caught the end of that ep. Was good. Haven’t watched any other parts of the series though.

Who would have thought tonight’s grand final would be a rematch of season 3 decider, between Dan and Steph and Jake and Elle? It promises to be another great contest.

That means tonight’s finale will be interrupted in all states except WA.

You will have MKR: Plate of Origin if it can be made with the coronavirus crisis in play.

My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals Champions

Brisbane siblings Jake & Elle have been crowned My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals Champions after an epic Grand Final rematch against Hervey Bay couple Dan & Steph.

The two “Fave” teams first cooked against each other in the 2013 Season 4 Grand Final in which Dan & Steph defeated Jake & Elle to take out the title. This year, it was the brother and sister team’s time to shine, producing a near perfect four course menu which MKR judge and Faves mentor Manu Feildel said showed how they had “grown and matured.”

Jake & Elle had a rocky start to the Rivals season, coming in second lowest on the leaderboard after the Instant Restaurant round. But they pulled it together during Restaurant Takeovers and even survived the added pressure of switching to Colin’s group part way through (to even up numbers after the Fan teams were decimated in eliminations). After making it to the Top 4, the siblings cooked their way to the highest Instant Restaurant score in MKR history, cementing their place in the Grand Final.

Jake & Elle had a point to prove going head to head with frenemies Dan & Steph again tonight. They did so with simple, restrained, “very Jake & Elle” dishes which stayed true to their roots and to the type of food they cook at home; demonstrating exceptional technique, flavour, colour and texture. Dan & Steph’s decadent, fine dining, “cheffy menu” was very well critiqued but just wasn’t enough to outscore the determined siblings.

Jake & Elle plan to use the $100,000 prize money to grow their Eat Street Northshore business (which is currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions).

The food may have to be cooked then home delivered to the judges houses?

I don’t think 7 will give up on it that easily. And to be fair they would be mad to.

My quick thoughts on this week’s final episodes :slightly_smiling_face:

How did Mark and Lauren survive that long in the competition? Their form had been uneven: they might create a spectacular dish followed by a poor one. I thought the grand final would be between Jake and Elle and Kerry and Kailene.
The grand final was a bit underwhelming despite the nice setting: 6 Head steakhouse at The Rocks in Sydney. Why didn’t the producers invite Guy Grossi, Karen Martini and Liz Egan to be guest judges for the GF? Also why the judges score for each menu out of 10 instead of each individual dish?
The GF was worthy of a rematch of the season 4 decider. Both teams created stunning dishes but it was Elle’s creation of Lemon Dolce that proved the difference. Congratulations to Jake and Elle.
If MKR is returning in 2021 it should go back to the original format, but retain the restaurant takeover stage from this season.

Why didn’t the producers keep all the other elements of MKR which made it MKR?

I notice in the consolidated numbers released today that last Tuesday’s final of MKR was adjusted down from 553,000 to just 463,000 due to news overruns and breaking news interruptions.

TV Blackbox understands the separation was an amicable mutual decision after the network informed Evans it would not be proceeding with another season of MKR in the foreseeable future”

Pretty much suggests that the show is finished, unless they’re thinking about blowing up the whole line-up and push a new version of MKR sometime next year (unlikely I know, but this is pure speculation).

I think not going with another season of MKR is a big big mistake.

and why is that? its not rating very well thats for sure

Neither was Masterchef at one point. But they went back to basics and turned it around. I think they could have done the same with MKR. The first part of next year is going to be wide open with no Married so it could have had the potential to do well.

They’re probably hoping that Plate of Origin will be replacing MKR into the future.

One last season wouldn’t be a bad idea, but they need to go to absolute basics. Cut the bitching, and the drama. They should be replicating what MasterChef does best; homegrown cooks and a show that thrives on goodwill and wholesome cooking.

But of course, don’t be Masterchef all the way (otherwise people will consider that to be a straight rip off). Good to show off teamwork and as they’ve promoted for many years: ‘Real people, real food’. Go Come Dine with Me style instead of copying Married at First Sight with the bitching and backstabbing.

From programming perspective I think they should consider one more go for MKR but it will need to be really GOOD in quality compared to their competition (whatever that will be).

And bring back the home visits. That is what the viewers liked.

Can we at least agree that Pete Evans should’ve been removed from the program years ago?
