My first compilation album was Ripper '76. Quite risque cover art. My mother thought the exposed bum was very rude.

I’m amazed too. Who would buy them? The only market I can think of is out-of-touch grandmas who started buying them as Christmas presents for the young’uns 10 years ago.

These are the same people who found the cover of Ripper '76 offensive

Meantime, only one Taylor Swift song (“Cruel Summer”) has managed to break back into the top 50, entering at #32.

“Mr Brightside” by The Killers also re-enters the charts, at #26.

This is the mash-up you didn’t know you needed in your life

Very interesting observation about the disappearance of bands in the charts these days. Richard Osman looks at the stats from the 2020s compared to the 1980s and 1990s.

Agree, solo acts get all the fame and glory these days.

BUT there is nothing more satisfying than seeing/hearing a 3+ piece band working together as equals to play/create a song.

An example, I prefer listening to Jimmy Barnes when part of Cold Chisel than as a solo artist.

Great to see Australia’s Midnight Oil featured. Shame they got Peter Garrett’s name wrong.

These things eb and flow.

In the early days of rock n roll it was all solo artists.

And then later in the 60s came the bands. You could have done a similar survey in the mid-late 60s and made a big thing of ‘where have all the solo performers gone?’

Like you say
 it’s ‘interesting’, but not earth-shattering.

German DJ stops Adelaide show due to ‘rowdy’ crowd

A popular musician has gone viral after stopping his set halfway through to call out the crowd for their “rowdy” behaviour.

But during his set, the 29-year-old stopped midway through to remind the crowd to stay hydrated and pleaded with them to “chill out” a little bit.

With the likes of Dolly Parton, Dasha, Lainey Wilson, Orville Peck, Jackson Dean and even the late Slim Dusty, the album is set for release on March 7.

The first single of the album (Wiggle Up, Giddy Up) will be performed at the iconic Tamworth Country Music Festival later this month from January 20 – 22.

Good to see that Ava Max’s music has enjoyed a resurgence on Australian radio, even if she only featured in songs by DJs (another example being Kygo’s “Whatever” which interpolates Shakira’s “Whenever, Wherever”).

She and David Guetta have proven that they can refresh a song and make it sound good again, with a nicer touch being the inclusion of the original vocals by Alphaville.

IMO it’s easier on the ears than Guetta and Bebe Rexha’s 2022 effort when they put their own touch on the Blue melody made original by Eiffel 65 and returned it to the top of the charts worldwide.
