My first compilation album was Ripper '76. Quite risque cover art. My mother thought the exposed bum was very rude.
Iâm amazed too. Who would buy them? The only market I can think of is out-of-touch grandmas who started buying them as Christmas presents for the youngâuns 10 years ago.
These are the same people who found the cover of Ripper '76 offensiveâŠ

APT. by RosĂ© and Bruno Mars has regained top spot on the first ARIA singles chart of 2025, while Sabrina Carpenter hangs onto the No.1 spot on the albums chart with Short nâ Sweet.
Meantime, only one Taylor Swift song (âCruel Summerâ) has managed to break back into the top 50, entering at #32.
âMr Brightsideâ by The Killers also re-enters the charts, at #26.
Very interesting observation about the disappearance of bands in the charts these days. Richard Osman looks at the stats from the 2020s compared to the 1980s and 1990s.
Agree, solo acts get all the fame and glory these days.
BUT there is nothing more satisfying than seeing/hearing a 3+ piece band working together as equals to play/create a song.
An example, I prefer listening to Jimmy Barnes when part of Cold Chisel than as a solo artist.
On this weekâs ARIA Charts:
Singles
- APT by Rose/Bruno Mars remains number one.
- âSomedaysâ by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D debuts at number #34. It has been on high rotation on radio for the past three months. The other debut is âPush 2 Startâ by Tyla which enters at #44.
Albums
- âShort nâ Sweetâ by Sabrina Carpenter remains number one.

Midnight Oil Beds Are Burning (1989)
Singer Peter Grant Became Australiaâs Environment Minister
Great to see Australiaâs Midnight Oil featured. Shame they got Peter Garrettâs name wrong.
These things eb and flow.
In the early days of rock n roll it was all solo artists.
And then later in the 60s came the bands. You could have done a similar survey in the mid-late 60s and made a big thing of âwhere have all the solo performers gone?â
Like you say⊠itâs âinterestingâ, but not earth-shattering.
German DJ stops Adelaide show due to ârowdyâ crowd
A popular musician has gone viral after stopping his set halfway through to call out the crowd for their ârowdyâ behaviour.
But during his set, the 29-year-old stopped midway through to remind the crowd to stay hydrated and pleaded with them to âchill outâ a little bit.
With the likes of Dolly Parton, Dasha, Lainey Wilson, Orville Peck, Jackson Dean and even the late Slim Dusty, the album is set for release on March 7.
The first single of the album (Wiggle Up, Giddy Up) will be performed at the iconic Tamworth Country Music Festival later this month from January 20 â 22.
Good to see that Ava Maxâs music has enjoyed a resurgence on Australian radio, even if she only featured in songs by DJs (another example being Kygoâs âWhateverâ which interpolates Shakiraâs âWhenever, Whereverâ).
She and David Guetta have proven that they can refresh a song and make it sound good again, with a nicer touch being the inclusion of the original vocals by Alphaville.
IMO itâs easier on the ears than Guetta and Bebe Rexhaâs 2022 effort when they put their own touch on the Blue melody made original by Eiffel 65 and returned it to the top of the charts worldwide.
