With so much music having been released over the years eg Apple/Spotify have over 100 million songs, it shouldn’t be a surprise that there might be a similarity between some songs even though the accused writer/singer would have never heard the other song

Plus there’s only so many notes and potential combinations.

The Guardian adds

Delevingne, who is a close friend of John’s, said: “Elton has always been an idol of mine. To say his music has had a deeply profound effect on me is an understatement. To be asked by him to play him in this recreation was a dream that I didn’t know I had until it happened. Honestly, I wish I could pretend to be Elton every day.

“I hope that Elton may one day return the favour and agree to play me in my not yet developed, written, pitched or funded biopic. Fingers crossed.”

Wham!’s festive song Last Christmas never got to number one in the year of its release 1984, but it has scored a historical first, becoming the first track to occupy the festive chart’s top slot for a second consecutive year.

The song, insiders report, “incorporates material from an existing song that was not written for the film” and so has been deemed ineligible for the Oscar.

Academy rules state that the words and music of any song submitted for awards consideration must be “original and written specifically for the motion picture.”

I feel there needs to be more Kevin Bloody Wilson on all forms of media.

Someone took Jim’s instructions too literally or seriously.

Fake news.

You know that it would be untrue.

For the first time in quite possibly a long time, there is not one single Taylor Swift song in the ARIA Top 50 Singles chart for the week starting Monday 30 December 2024.

As is usual at this time of year, Christmas songs dominate the charts and it is no surprise that it is Mariah Carey who rules on top.

The highest-charting non-Christmas song is “APT” by Rose/Bruno Mars which drops from the summit to number eight. As a result of the Christmas songs flooding the charts:

  • “Die with a Smile” by Lady Gaga/Bruno Mars drops from 4 to 16
  • “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone drops from 9 to 21
  • “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter drops from 12 to 32, while “Taste” drops from 11 to 35
  • “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims drops from 19 to 44.

On the albums chart, “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter reclaims top spot; “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift drops from the summit to number three.

On the 40th anniversary of its release, Wham’s Last Christmas is No.2 on this week’s ARIA singles chart, equalling its highest chart position in Australia.

Wednesday also marked eight years since George Michael sadly passed away on Christmas Day.

And yet next week will get to celebrate a whole year in the chart.

So fresh ain’t so fresh these days.

“Mr Brightside” by The Killers is the penultimate track on the Autumn 2005 edition, though after it charted modestly around that time, it re-entered the charts once again in January 2022 and has charted consistently since.

Benson Boone’s music cannot be included on So Fresh because the label to which he is signed, Warner Music, is not supported by the compilation. This also means music by the likes of Ava Max, Bebe Rexha and Dua Lipa (all are signed to Warner) cannot be included either, though there were some exceptions such as “Cold Heart” by Lipa and Elton John.

Yes. Dua Lipa and Martin Garrix Autumn 2017 as well.

I’m a bit surprised they still sell “So Fresh” and the like given you can buy just the tracks you want on iTunes for probably for less than the actual CD (unless you want most/all of them).

Much different to the old days, when a 7 inch single would be $3, but a 18 track compilation album like “Throbbin 84” (best name ever for a compilation!) would be $18.

This year, they ceased the seasonal compilations and instead did a “Best Of” one for 2024.

But even so, this compilation features music dating back to as early as May last year (think “Fast Car” by Luke Combs).
